How to tell which battery is in my MG5

Hi everyone.
I have a new MG5 Luxury Long range. But i have the feeling that the battery is from the standard range model. I can't set a charging limit and i calculated a usable battery capacity of 46.5KWh. Has anyone experienced something similar? And can I see the actual battery size somewhere? I looked at the battery itself but i could figure out what size it is. I have some pictures of the Battery pack and from the trip meter.

That remaining range v percentage would suggest a SR battery, i.e. 48kwh but so much depends on your driving style, the roads and ambient temperature.

This pdf of details on an Indian MG5 also suggests that the number BU113A50S refers to a 50kwh battery

Now i have some solid proof to show my car dealer.
I have done the calculations several times by now and every time i get around 45.5-46.5kwh.

If you also have a MG5 it would be cool if you could take a picture of your battery.

Ah unfortunately my SR MG5 is at the dealers, it broke (after 50k miles ~ 80k km).

What is the predicted range when you reset the trip counters with a full battery and everything (heating etc.) turned off ?

I don't remember exactly but one i charged to 100% the range was about 205km amd after resetting the trip it jumped to about 270km i think. I will check again the next time i charge to 100%.
Do you have an MG5? If you could check your battery label it would be nice.

The consumption figures are equivalent to 2.7 miles/kWh which isn't great, but it's not clear whether that was from 100% to 17% or from a lower starting %. Certainly taken on the GOM reading or assuming starting at 100% would imply a < 50kWh battery.

Where did you take that picture from? Front, back, left or right? Below is a picture from on top of the battery of a (Edit LR MG5 but not sure whether SR or LR) battery from a breaker which shows a very different number but that could just be a design change in the last 18 months.

My picture is from the front left. The sticker looks similar (the one with saic motor). What number is on the right of the barcode? Mine was BU131A50S and i think its 131ah on a 400v system that's 50.3kwh.

My car is a pre-facelift registered in the UK in April 2022, but has this sticker:

On your interpretation of 174Ah that gives 61.3kWh at the lower voltage of 350v that is used on the LR. You really need the same picture from a SR - can someone grovel under their car just behind the N/S front wheel towards the centre where there is a nose sticking forward on the battery with this sticker vertically on the side facing you.

My view is that you have got the "wrong" battery, which means a different motor and other characteristics. Very strange and unsatisfactory.

Thank you very much for the picture. Yes a picture of a SR would give a definitive answer.
My car dealer told me that according to the VIN it should be a 61.3kwh model. Either they are lying or MG somehow managed to install the wrong battery.

I don't think that you can tell the difference between the motor power, 150ps and 170ps.

Also i suspect that the last number EU174A61S is the KWh rating. 61.3KWh and on mine BU131A50S = 50.3KWh.

I tried that but on all VIN checkers i could find you only get the model name = MG5.

Looking again at the breakers advert it isn't clear whether it is an SR or an LR, and the number is BU131A50S so the same as yours which makes me think it was an SR.

I suspect the factory have misled your dealer with a genuine mistake. I certainly agree about not being able to tell the motor power - having had a SR MG4 there was no difference at low speed in comparison to the LR which was higher geared, it just ran out of power at higher speeds which isn't where I normally drive.

I would say the sticker is definitive.
175A61 - 61kw battery.
131A50 - 50kw battery.

Not sure what other differences are on the face-lift models.

Don't post often, but I have an original MG5 (so standard range if you like) and happened to have a picture from the battery which gives more info.

Perfect. So the plot thickens. It looks like the battery chemistry of the facelift MG5 SR is different to the previous version, perhaps more in line with that used on the MG4. Frankly it is now down to MG to resolve ......
