Fortunately, I'm about on the sweet spot for my range requirements in the XPower. I rarely get more than 150 miles out of a tank, say 100% down to 10-15%. By example, yesterday's commute was circa 145 miles return over mix of A roads + Motorway (50-70mph+ depending on busy/closed sections - took three hours to travel 75 miles on return leg late afternoon), left home at 90% and returned with 4%. HVAC was set low with seat/steering wheel heaters on + lights etc.

Tbh, if I had to drive it differently to eke out the miles for a longer commute, I'd use something different. It's not that I drive like a loon and I barely ever go at it in sport mode - just don't want to have my speed/acceleration impeded and not have some moments of fun on what otherwise would be extremely mundane trips. Also, 6 hours of low-cost nighttime charging makes it so cheap to run (setting aside impending EV mileage tax in UK) that why not!

setting aside impending EV mileage tax in UK
We’re about to get taxed here in Western Australia as well, which annoys me a little bit. If they tax all cars on mileage, and then tax fossil fuel as well, that’s fair enough, but specific EV taxes are lame. I don’t mind paying taxes, but I do mind being the only group that has to pay them.

However, I do tell myself that even with extra tax, it’s still cheaper to run, and a better driving experience (EV over ICE in general).

The reason they're adding an EV tax in the UK is because ICE fuel is already heavily taxed, so they want to try and claw back some of the tax lost from people who've moved from ICE to EV. :)

I still think it may not come in - probably get delayed until after the next election.

I favour a policy that is less discriminatory against rural folk:
ANPR tolls on motorway slipways, no booths/plazas, charging around 12p per mile for all vehicles would be enough to replace VED completely (assuming no change in behaviour), might need to be higher in practice.

To favour EVs, I'd follow the 2:1 cost ratio the government has talked about, so perhaps:
  • 15p per mile for ICE
  • 7.5p per mile for EVs

No state govt will be applying such a tax - the Victorian govt tried that a couple of years ago and it was challenged in the High Court and deemed unconstitutional. They had to refund all money collected. The Feds may introduce such a charge in an arrangement with the States but it would be a federal scheme applying equally nationwide.

You have 61kWh of useable capacity, which translates to around 7 litres of diesel.
Obviously you're not going to go far with this.

Don't forget that an EV is a lot more efficient than a diesel engine (in the context of normal automotive use) - by a factor of 2-3. So the equivalence is with a diesel car with a 14-21 litre fuel tank.
