Keeping track of my MG4 (efficiency)

Oh my.

I'm now on my desktop, using the Light Theme, and discovered I've been using this odd colour font ever since February!

I'm very sorry about it, but it went completely unnoticed on a Dark Theme.

I've now edited all previous posts (I think I did not miss any).

Thank you again and let me know straight away if something like this ever happens again.

We'll let you, off. 😉🙂👍

My lowest consumption so far on a roundtrip

About ~20% city driving, the rest highway at 90-95km/h. About 30-32°C that day and A/C on 23°C.

I think there's still some more efficiency to be had; a bit more pressure in the tires, a bit more "drafting" behind the slowpokes and I'd wager 10s are possible on longer journies.

Btw, summer EV tyres seem to have helped a bit. I get roughly 5% better efficiency, maybe 7-8%. Difficult to isolate due to different temparatures now. So if you're after max range and/or high efficiency, appropriate tyres are certanly an area to explore.

LOL.. thought that was 11.3 miles/kWh for a moment there! Still, that's 5.5 miles/kWh which is well impressive :)

Ive had 6.5miles a kwh but it all comes down to how slow you are prepared to go.
must have been quite slow and/or no ac/heat.

But to be fair, i'd say slow speed efficiency doesn't really matter in real world. If you're driving far, you usually don't drive city speeds.

Another hypermiling efficiency test on the highway; this time with no AC.
Outside temp 23-24C, curising speed around 85-90kmh, 10% city, 90% highway

Reported consumption: 10.1kWh/100km

That's probably as low a i can go at highway without mods.

Round trip?

Round trip?

Yup, round trip. About 60m elevation change; on the way back i hit 9.9kWh/100km, but i this was likely due to elevation.

Next time i'm aiming for sub 100Wh/km on the round trip. Plan is to drop the car a few cms to gain a bit of aero advantage (should be a touch better in theory). The car rides too high for my taste anyway. And looks especially funny with 16" wheels.

I'll possibly add 100-200mBar to the tires, as that might be the most i can tolerate comfort wise.

Another option i'm exploring is to retrofit active grill shutter from the higher spec models, but wiring/controling might be an issue, since this year/spec wasn't factory with that feature. Could possibly add some efficiency as well.

That's about most i think of to improve efficiency.

First post updated, with July's data:

PeriodDistance (km)Efficiency (kWh/100km)Average Speed (km/h)Up Time
July 2025142815.4 (4.03 mi/kWh)3837:07

Current overall combined efficiency: 15.0 kWh/100km (4.15 mi/kWh).

I saw 5mls/kwh over 88.7mls with local driving consisting of motorway driving and A and B roads. The temperature was in the low 20's so aircon not being used, and possibly significantly heating either. This time of year I'm mainly achieving figures around 4.4 to 4.7 mls/kwh.

Did just over 150 miles on mainly motorway yesterday at an average of 5.0.
I drive like an old fart.

Impressive! My average speed is close to 80 kmh, and with all season tyres and a heavier ER I hardly do better than 15 kwh/100 km. Is yours a 51 kwh version?

Yes, mine is 51kWh version. Note posts above, i was able to hit 9.9kWh/100km with really efficient highway driving (one way).

I'd say tires help a bit for sure. Mine has 16" (205/60r16) and i picked the most efficient tires i could find (falken e.ziex). So aero can be cheated by driving behind other people/trucks, so all that's left is to minimize rolling resistance and other consumers (like heat/ac).

Not necessarily my best consumption, but today I went the furthest down the battery (and, at the same time, I did the most distance) on a single charge.

343.6 km = 213.5 miles
7% battery remaining
12.8 kWh/100km = 4.85 mi/kWh

This was achieved in a very controlled way towards the end (I actually extended my route on purpose), but still I hated the feeling of not having range.

I will definitely never plan my trips based on arriving with anything below 10%.

Your warning message suggests you've disconnected the 12V battery at some point but haven't done the steering reset procedure. OR, you've parked with the wheels turned at a sharp angle.

Oh, I get this message all the time as I never straighten the wheels after parking. :)

To be clear, I didn't post the image because of the message (I didn't even notice it); it was simply to share the numbers.
