Keeping track of my MG4 (efficiency)

Since changing the tires on the xpower, i think i’m now getting roughly 23kwh/100km. It sucks balls. In the real world, limited charging to 80%, trying to avoid it going down to 20%, only doing roughly 120km between charges

If you need more range then charge to more than 80%. Our NMC batteries are showing more and more how resilient they are. Why limit your range now to theoretically safe range in the battery ten or twenty years from now?

If you abused your battery, and it went down to 70% of its original capacity ten year from now, you'd still have more range than the 60% you use now.

Hmm yeh mybe, when dealer sold me the car he reckoned just charge it to 100%. Im not panicking, fine to do regular charging when commuting and charge to 100% on long trips. But a bit bummed that a car with 400km claimed range is anything but. Max 280km odd on a full charge now

Are you equalising your battery?

You really need to take it down to below 10% and AC charge to 100% in one go (not confirmed) plus stay on the EVSE (charger) until the car tells you it has finished charging. The equalisation time after reaching 100% can take up to 2 hours. This should be done about every 6 months.

280km is very low, maybe try the charge that @Martinonline has mentioned above. Is it very cold where you are now? I’ve lost a good 40/50km of range in winter here in Western Australia, and I was a bit surprised by that, but 280 sound very low indeed

Should I defrag the hard drive as well ?

1st service this week. Will see what they say about battery soh. But a big part of it is the tires. I think I took a 20% or so hit on range switching to Continental Pro Sport 5’s (non ev)

Perhaps RTFM.

The SOC and range estimates lose accuracy over time without calibration charge being performed. It was good advice, suggest you heed it.

Tyres are unlikely your issue, unless inadequately inflated or well out of alignment. Your right foot is the likely culprit. Winter does not help either as cold weather reduces range.

Here's our longer term economy and 100% SOC range estimates over the longer term, since I started the data capture.

First post updated, with August's data:

PeriodDistance (km)Efficiency (kWh/100km)Average Speed (km/h)Up Time
August 2025211314.3 (4.35 mi/kWh)4744:03

Current overall combined efficiency: 14.9 kWh/100km (4.16 mi/kWh).

I've been forcing myself to make longer trips with the MG4, as charging on the go is something which I'm a bit averse to and I want to overcome it. This month I did just that.

If you are not defragging the hard drive and descaling the kettle, every week, all bets are off, amigo
