Keeping track of my MG4 (efficiency)

Two full years with the MG4. Here's the stats:

March and May are quite different in kWh/km, is that when the weather gets cold in Hungry Head? (I went to find it on a map - it's a fair distance from Maidstone in Kent (UK))

In March we moved home so I was doing a lot of towing.

This was the first load being dropped off to my shed. I did 20+ loads.

Winter here is June to mid-August but it's not really all that cold.

First post updated, with September's data:

PeriodDistance (km)Efficiency (kWh/100km)Average Speed (km/h)Up Time
September 2025115114.6 (4.26 mi/kWh)3136:43

Current overall combined efficiency: 14.9 kWh/100km (4.17 mi/kWh).

Did mostly urban driving this month, hence the lower-than-usual distance traveled.

Almost did a 900 km roundtrip during last weekend, but at the last minute decided against it - we were limited on time and bringing the MG4 would mean adding something like 2 hours to an already long trip, so we went with the family's PHEV instead.

I must admit to not closely following your progress through this thread @wattmatters, but why is there so much variation in the $/100km, it ranges from as little as 4cents per 100km, right up to over $6 per 100km?
If we travel and need to use highway DC fast chargers, then the cost is much much higher. Meanwhile a month of only charging from home is as cheap as chips. Cheaper actually.

DC fast charging has made up 16% of the total charge energy but is 58% of the total cost.

Seems like a fair bit of work but if you like doing that sort of thing then not an issue.
Quick question and not a pop in any way, did you do similar when you had an ice car?

Excellent, thanks for the explanation, it all makes sense now. 👍

It's mostly automated. A couple of minutes each month perhaps.

No, not with an ICE car because I didn't have Home Assistant integrations automatically collecting the data for any of my previous vehicles, and not for petrol/diesel purchases either.

With electricity I have data supplied by my home charging systems, while for the occasional DC charge sessions I get a statement in the app or emailed.

I noticed before I decided to buy my first EV (the MG4) that there wasn't a lot of long term consistently collated data on actual energy consumption and costs.

Lots of people were posting cherry picked data in order to win some silly online argument they were having with a troll, so I decided to keep a detailed record and make it as easy as I could.

Naturally everyone's use case and charging options vary. We can do most charging at home during the day when it stupidly cheap.

First post updated, with October's data:

PeriodDistance (km)Efficiency (kWh/100km)Average Speed (km/h)Up Time
October 2025162315.4 (4.03 mi/kWh)3249:19

Current overall combined efficiency: 14.9 kWh/100km (4.16 mi/kWh).

Yesterday I remembered, like the thread on the MG S5 forum as it was the beginning of the month, to record and then reset the data in the accumulated journey trip display. As I haven't done this for some time the accumulated time was 84 hrs, but it does show a good average of 4.2m/kWh. The MG S5 forum submit theirs monthly as a comparison as its a new model to get real world efficiency data. So here's mine for my MG4 Trophy LR. I'll try and record this at the beginning of each month to build up my own efficiency data.
