I won’t say this is a fix to the problems associated with lane keep assist, and those that keep turning it off each time they get in the car, but this is a solution I have been using to make it work “normally”.
If you try it, and it works for you, come back and say so, so that others can get value from this.

So what I have tried, and now doing is the following:
1. Don’t turn off lane keep assist
2. Turn off ACC and TJA in the menu.
3. Just get in and drive the car as normal.

ACC and TJA will stay off each time you get out of and lock the car, and as we know, LKA will turn on each time you get back in, but that’s ok, so when you get into your car, you won’t need to touch the screen at all to change any settings,
Just get in and drive.
This solution has made LKA work as I expect it should.
I don’t use ACC or TJA, and I think most people may not use it often either for daily drives, so give it a go, and if you want to use either at anytime, just turn back on, but you will probably get the associated problems with LKA back.

Good luck….

Just trying to confirm what "normally" means?

Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) doesn't ever do anything and you don't get a beep or interaction with the steering wheel even if you are exceeding 60kph and move out of the lane?

ELK will automatically be enabled when exceeding 60kph in my experience, but I have ACC as the type of control I want when I enable it via pressing the "steering wheel" button.

Are you saying it won't "auto enable" if exceeding 60 if I have neither ACC or TJA selected in the menu?

If you press the "steering wheel" button does ACC turn on? i.e. Will it stick at the speed I am doing and maintain distance between the car in front?
Or does it mean that you can't enable ACC by the push button and have to enable it via the menu first?

I don't actually have a problem with LKA/ELK, but I get why some people don't like it. That being said, if I'm going on a very long drive I often do use the swipe down menu to turn ELK off.
Good luck….
I'll give it a try and see what happens and report back how I find it.

I have had no updates since I bought the car new in 2023. I'll get all of them on its first service in August this year.

Originally I hated LKA & turned it off all the time. Eventually I gave up & just drive the car. I learned to drive more accurately and now on the motorway hardly ever get a beep or steering wheel tug at all. I've never had any issues on unmarked roads as some have with the system interpreting leaves on the roadside as the white line etc.

I also drive in Isuzu D-Max & it is worse but I don't drive it anywhere as much.

So all in all LKA doesn't bother me at all. When I get all the software updates it will be interesting to see if I notice much difference.

Same ;)

My first "service" is up soon and I guess I'll get whatever updates there are presuming the SC077 LKA "fix" is available here in Australia.

Around town I never disable ELK, but on some long trips I can be bothered. Sometimes not...

Can confirm after a quick test drive that if Drive Assist System is set to OFF rather than ACC or TJA the "Steering Wheel" button (left hand set of buttons on the physical steering wheel) can no longer toggle Cruise Control on and off.

For me this makes the setting of no practical benefit as to allow ACC I'd need to go into the system menu and turn on ACC in the Drive Assist setting.

That's actually more hassle than just turning off ELK via the "pull down" menu if ever I want LKA/ELK de-activated.

Not everyone has that option, requires a software update. I have to go though the menus.

ELK/LKA has been pretty terrible for me, we are on country road with poor edges and again the other day it once again demonstrated this awful habit of trying to steer me hard to the right and into an oncoming vehicle. I thought, "it's only a short drive to town, I'll put up with it". Nope. Turn it off.

Losing ability to easily switch on ACC is not worth it for us, we also live not far from a major dual lane highway and a lot of k's are done on that road using ACC.

I went on a trip last weekend and while on the mainland thought I would try LKA again - it is hopeless on the Isle of Wight - and it was OK except that at many exit slip-roads on the major roads and motorways, there are painted white forked arrows on the carriageway. LKA didn't like these at all and consistently tweaked the steering and complained every time I went over one, so I turned LKA off again. The car is going for its first service next week so I will ask for the upgrade. That will hopefully sort it out.

I took mine in to the dealer for some warranty work recently and they installed the SCO77 update automatically without asking.
Since then I have never had to turn ELK off, it works perfectly.
Before, I used to turn it off every time I started the car (or curse when I found out the hard way that I had forgotten to!)
Get an MG dealer to install this update, you won't regret it!

Further to this, along with disabling the ability to activate ACC via the "steering wheel" button, whilst the Drive Assist System setting does remain in "OFF" the Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) function will be automatically enabled once you speed up to around 70kph.

So, not only do you lose the ability to easily activate/deactivate cruise control, you are still subject to the vagaries of ELK.

Unfortunately, for me, setting the Drive Assist System to OFF rather than ACC or TJA is the worst of both possible worlds.

I'll just stick to having the alert sensitivity set to low and using the pull down menu to turn off ELK if I really feel the need to.
