MG 4 Safety Issue - Uncontrolled Acceleration

It seems to me that driving an EV is very similar to driving an automatic ICE car. I find the physical act of driving my MG4 to be very similar to driving my previous DSG car. If panicking and flooring the accelerator instead of the brake was a thing, isn't it happening in automatic ICE cars too?

Do you lightly touch the brake to enable N, or is being off the throttle enough?
I’m going to try selecting N when rolling in my born later.

Don't need to touch the brake, I think it will do it without even coming off the gas IIRC.

FWIW I did a test and selected N whilst moving. However I did lightly press the brake pedal whilst doing so.

I think the first 'throttle by wire' car I owned was a 2000 'w' plate Focus, so it's been around a quarter century at least.
Didn't fully trust it at first mind you , what if it goes bonkers I thought. At least a snapped old style throttle cable connected to a carb is naturally fail safe on ICE's.

Even if the return spring snaps on a carb meaning the throttle does not close, the key can still be turned to stop the engine in a emergency.

As the MG4 doesn't have a key+keyhole or start / stop button, there isn't really a way to cut the power in an emergency.

At least putting it in N is an option, but this is a scary thing to think about, especially if it was to happen while waiting to pull out of a junction!

I’m fairly sure pressing the brake normally cuts power plus brakes are usually much more powerful than the engine/motor output.

I guess if you can get it to stop then P is your friend as long as the car is paying attention?

The impression the op is giving is that the brakes were fighting against the car wanting to accelerate.
Like a jammed throttle in an ICE (not experienced that in a car, but have on motorbikes - thankfully they have kill switches )

I'm still a bit hazy how come we're only hearing about this "driver error" in EVs and not cars with DSGs. The same error should be possible in these cars, surely.

I occasionally use light footbrake with my left foot, while still applying power with my right, to clean off brake discs (not MG’s). The friction brakes will hold the car against it trying to accelerate.
On full power it will still stop the car - though on different models and at higher speeds this might not work as well.
On most cars you can also emergency apply the parking brake by holding it in the on position whilst moving. Thankfully it is very very unusual and uncommon to have an unwanted and constant power delivery.

You should see the face of the driver behind you when the wife pulls on the electric handbrake, thinking its putting her window back up, because that's where the button is in her car ?
