HS PHEV
I have just purchased a Brand new MG HS PHEV Trophy edition. Traded in my 23 plate MG ZS for it. This is my first hybrid car also.

Does anyone have any tips for this car before I take delivery? And what are the best settings to drive on? I can charge for free at my workplace so don’t plan on getting a charger installed at home. Any help is appreciated.

I would suggest reading through the topics on this forum first. Many tips are included here, but keep in mind that some of the older queries may no longer be an issue due to software updates.
There are a number of topics covering member's preferred EV/HEV settings, etc, and it may be that you haven't received a detailed reply as the most experienced members have covered these points a number of times.
Don't let that put you off coming back here if you can't find what you are looking for.

Not that I’m an expert, as I’ve only had my hs hybrid for just or 2 weeks. But as far as I can make out the car will limit the charge to slow charging wherever you connect.
I’ve got a ‘granny’ charger in my garage, and I put the car on charge when needed.
Unlock, open flap, insert plug. Switch on charger in garage, set to 10amps, and away it goes. In the car charging is in progress shows. LOCK CAR. The car, I think regulates the charge rate, as after a few minutes the charge is 9amps, then near the end it goes to 23amps, and then when fully charged switches off. Simples.

Where can I get one of those granny chargers?

@Herandnu I got my one (Masterplug EV Charging Cable, 5 Metres, Mode 2, 3 Pin UK Plug to Type 2 Car Charger, 2.4kW, EVCM221005) from Amazon.
@Gez1888 - That link will take you to my suggestions of what you should do before taking delivery of the car.

Thanks for this. What is the latest software version so that I can check it has been updated before I leave the forecourt?

@Gez1888 - Funnily enough, I got mine updated (to what I assume is the latest version) 2 days ago. Specifically, the MG dealer did this to fix the 'star' button problem.
  • They upgraded from R46 to R62

Brilliant. Will make sure that it is R62 before I leave. Brilliant advice in here btw. Thanks very much!

Picked up my car yesterday. Happy with it so far. Finding using chargers a bit tricky so far but sure I’ll get use to them.

Has anyone had any issues trying to fit car mats? It seems the latch in the passenger and driver side doesn’t turn fully, just the top bit?

No issue fitting floor mats, just slot the holes in the mat over the part that turns, once you have lined them up, then once the mat is in place turn the "latch" through 90⁰ to lock the mats into place.

If your car is showing software R46 they won't upgrade to R62 just because you want the latest software installed, I was in the same position and asked before collection while they were doing PDI to upgrade to latest but on collection they said they can't upgrade without there being a problem. When I enquired why apparently it's only upgraded when they are in for repairs because something isn't working properly MG won't won't let them do it. But having said that all is working fine on my motor on R46. Enjoy your new car.😉

One would think that when an update is released your car would be called in for an upgrade but saying that it's been stated on here that following an upgrade things haven't worked properly, so perhaps not!!!🤨

But that's not the point! Firstly, my condition for purchasing the vehicle was that it would be delivered with the latest software, and this was promised to me. Secondly, MG advertises OTA software updates as a way of quickly receiving improvements, as all other manufacturers do, at least within the warranty period. But we will probably never get them. And that is my biggest criticism of this otherwise beautiful car. Even our Dacia Spring has already received updates, via Wi-Fi on our doorstep.
But I know your other comments, and you can talk yourself into anything. And if there are improvements, then I want to benefit from them in a new vehicle, even if they have been very meagre at MG so far.
But what worries me is that if the garages already have problems installing a simple software update, what can we expect if something really does break down and you can no longer use the car because of it?

Precisely, my argument no, concern is that from manufacture to delivery to the showroom if there has been an update then surely it should be installed during the P.D.I. and checked that everything works as it should after the update. We shouldn't have to wait until something goes wrong for an update. Regards the ota well, you know as well as I do the trouble peaple have had trying to perform ota updates, cars have performed worse following an ota.

But I still love my car!!!

Apparently, MG's attitude isn't unique to this country. I experienced the same update problem this week. Back in my own country, I was able to update my car because I know someone in upper management. If I hadn't, I would have had to wait weeks for a software issue to arise and for an update to be released, which is very frustrating. pfff MG...
