Decided to contacted MG customer support about the shortfalls being highlighted (maybe if more ask the question we may hear if they recognise there are problems……) [email protected]

As the title states, I was intending to buy an IM6 but very concerned about the defects/faults being highlighted by current owners:

a. Apparently there are no OTA updates atm.
b. Auto headlights do not work
c. Auto dim of the displays does not work
d. Phone cooling does not work
e. DAB radio is very poor (seems to use FM far more than normal
f. Auto lane change not working
g. Seat massage only works for about 2 sec
h. Key supplied is dreadful. Too large and cannot be attached to a key ring.

This list is not exhaustive but is significant enough to make other cars more attractive.

Are there any plans to fix these faults?

a. Didn't someone here say they got changes in the scenes after the car was delivered, by remote
b. Don't know
c. Don't know.
d. Don't know.
e. Had no problem with DAB+ reception on 3h drive. Not in UK tho.
f. Tried it multiple times, it worked as intended on both IM5 and IM6 (LHD cars)
g. It worked flawlessly (LHD car)
h. Not really a big problem eh?

Hi Mikejs
Would be good to hear if they reply to you, specifically regarding OTA and headlight dimming / dab radio.
Hopefully we will all get updates soon

OTA updates are due to be trialled with the IM cars in the UK in spring 2026. OTA updates work in China/asia already.

That does not hold up dealer-fit updates which could come out at any time.

It is relatively common for brand new MG models to arrive with some minor software functions not working. They usually issue software updates to fix these over the first few months of a new model's life.

If people are wondering why the software isn't 100% when the car has been out for a while in Asia, it is because the software gets completely reworked for European markets, so what you get software-wise is new.

Totally agree there are a lot of people saying they will never buy a Tesla because of Musk, yes his politics are questionable and he comes across like a Bond villain.
However as you say there are questionable politics within the Chinese government including alleged mistreatment of minority ethnic groups and ongoing threats to invade another sovereign nation.
As well as our own government staying they are a threat to national security.

If people slag of Musk and boycott Tesla the same reasoning should surely apply to Chinese goods, otherwise people are only being hypocrites
Yes. It is funny how people pick only certain people and causes to boycott: like Trump, Musk, Palestine, Russia and don't apply it consistently to people and places that are not in the news.

It is up to individuals to do whatever they think is best but I don't apply this kind of thinking myself.

Thank you for your insight.

re the key, maybe not a big problem but it is still a problem if you want your key with you. Personally, I will look to attached a ring to it...
I will look into attaching a ring to it myself, so I will do the same as you. But I don't see that as a problem and (among others possibly) a reason to not buy the car. The car is so good to drive that I can accept much shortcomings in other areas.

It is the list of current shortcomings that are the issue not any individual one.

I totally get it, being forgiving of short comings is all relative, they mg4 arrived with loads (some more than others) thankfully 3 years in most have been fixed, there are still some however but most people forgive the car as it is perceived to be a bit of a bargain.
Although the aftersales experience the wife had hasn't been fixed and is enough to put you off the brand.

The IM cars are totally different at that price point things should work (for the most part) as intended. I would be less forgiving off the car.

The big issue is aftersales and communication, even good dealers can be ham strung by MG UK

It seems from other reports that OTA updates are coming some time in the future. DAB seems OK for most. Phone cooling appears to work but not well. Auto dim operation seems slow to change to dark and does not change back again. Auto dip headlights does not seem to work/exist.

Let’s hope that’s the case regarding OTA MikeJS, DAB is a big problem on my car, combined with no auto dimming of dashboard and no auto dip for the headlights. Pilot mode needs updating to make it usable together with ACC, hopefully all will be addressed in due course.

Is DAB normally OK where you are as many on FB have said it is fine in their IM6.

Hi, yes DAB in my old cars (enyaq & BMW) worked fine without issue. The im6 appears to have a really bad signal switching from dab back to fm most of the time. Even the fm signal is not that great, I did wonder if perhaps it’s an Ariel problem rather than software. I have actually sent MG an email asking about the issues that most here are finding asking them when we might get them resolved ( it wasn’t to slag off what I consider to be a very good car, just a note on what needs addressing). They have replied to be fair telling me that my points have been passed to technical and that they will respond, at this stage you can’t ask for more than that.

Sounds like an aerial issue. DAB can be more sensitive. I remember I had poor radio reception on my Alfa Romeo Giulietta and the aftermarket installer advised me to install a booster. It improved. But later found out there were many loose connection issues with those cars.

I think it's a brand issue, mg4 has similar issues

Anyone else find the model names confusing? Why call the top model "launch edition" when it does the same 0-60 as the performance? At least actually have a launch mode. The only difference between the two is air suspension..... Baffling

The Launch as in launching of the car. Not "Launch" mode. In fact I don't think there is one!

I don't think I encountered that problem when I had the MG HS as a courtesy car. Also you forget that the IM is a completely different subrand to MG. It has no commonality to the current MG range.
I will say it's a SAIC issue then as there are dab signal issues with the MG 4 and now it would seem the IM cars.

There will definitely be commonality with them if the current MG levels of aftersales are carried over into the IMs
