Could owners comment on this as he basically says:
  • It has far too much power for the chassis to handle, the handling is wayward.
  • The brakes are poor and potentially dangerous because they can't stop the car in time.
  • The software doesn't work well in practice.
  • The car looks good on paper but it isn't well executed and just isn't up to the job, they'd buy a Renault Scenic, Polestar 4 or Cupra Tavascan instead.
I was surprised by the comments, there are two drivers and they both say the same things.
I assume it is a performance model they tested? (PS I don’t watch reviews as I prefer to read.)

For the LR version I would say the brakes are fine - at least as good as my other cars at that inc an Ioniq 5 AWD and a 3.5 ltr BMW Z4.
I have zero problems with the SW.
Overall, atm, I would say it is one of the best and nicest car I have owned.

Rear wheel steering can feel weird when you are not used to it, specially if you power a fair bit in a bend, it feels like you are skidding when you're not. It can also have some of the same feeling if you have worn out bushes in the rear suspension, as the angle of the tires will change under load. Actually some cars have been engineered this way, like Peugeot 206 rear bushes. But if a journalist doesn't grasp this, is it the cars fault or is it just incompetence?

No issue with the brakes.
Handling is fine. As I have mentioned before quite a lot of these reviewers they see 750 bhp and they expect from a 2,5t SUV to behave like a Ferrari.
Software yes, it can improve. Nothing major but there's room indeed.
Renault scenic instead of this? Lol apples to pears is the most polite thing that comes to mind.
Polestar 4? Have they checked it's bloody price?

This is why I avoid these reviews...

I don't know where they were quoting those prices from. Leasing they said? Sealion 7 PCP is about the same or more. Without all the auto drive features. Without air suspension. And worse, all reviews commented in the unsteadiness at motorway speeds, hard acceleration and noise.

Again, they make the same mistake by comparing apples to oranges. This is an affordable limo. Enjoy what it gives you for the money. Otherwise the MGS6 would be better.

Not surprised to be fair, it is massive it is heavy and if you are booting it, it will take a bit of stopping.

The brakes will be fine with normal driving, and as they said charging at home isn't an issue.
If you are motorway driving loads then it will be a guzzler.

Comparing lease deals is probably sensible in terms of business cars. Comparing pcp deals then it will be cheaper.

But if a journalist doesn't grasp this, is it the cars fault or is it just incompetence?

Agree. Even a professional motoring journalist. Is just that a Journalist writing about cars. Not a professional car driver, (racing driver) who can honestly comment about a car's handling, brakes, power. etc etc. And you will take what he says on board. And don't even get me started on those amateur, bloody u tubers. That's why the majority of reviews are cobblers. 🙄🤪

I never had driving experience with rear wheel steering.
I reckon it is the best future of the car. Turns like a bloody mini 😄
Love the it feels. Like those tanks turning on the spot and there is nothing odd about it to be honest. Could be just me though.

Thanks for all the responses, they help to understand what is being said and experienced.

What I take from this (and some other reviews) is that the Performance model has so much performance that for some it feels out of character for the car and they start wanting to judge it as something it is not - and fall into the trap perhaps of mistaking RWS as a handling issue.

Now as negative feedback goes, there are worse things than being much too fast. It shows, as I suspected, that the RWD versions of the IM5 and 6 are the ones to go for: more efficient and performance aplenty.

On the software, I suspect it is the limited time reviewers usually get plus the lack of convenience of buttons (inherent in the design choices) that prompts the criticism. It seems once people know how it works, there are few complaints.

With cost comparisons, it is more difficult, as these change all the time depending on the deals available and how you choose to finance the car.

Power numbers are just to shift cars. Lend prestige. You can't be premium without power that sort if thing. Because reviewers will moan it has less power than Tesla or Polestar in that price bracket. My Stelvio is 280bhp and i hardly even use the full power mode. Only a bit of fun to myself. But the normal power setting works fine if I shift the gears manually.
The top Sealion 7 boast 645bhp so I guess its a bit of one-upmanship.
AWD for safety in a heavy SUv and air suspension to me are more important. I can probably live with 400bhp. It does weigh as much as a large Transit!

It's a 75kWh version of the IM6, which he finds surprisingly good and efficient, and quick to charge, although he has issues with the ACC in Thailand.

We are not offered this version in the UK, which is a shame, but I suppose it makes sense because it would directly compete with the new 77kWh MGS6.

I've been looking on autotrader today and you can get ex-demo IM5 75kWh (the base version) for £29,500, so there are some absolute bargains out there. It may be the case that the base model of each of the IM5/IM6 is where the true value is.

Agree. And bloody good cars, they are too. But personally if I was in the market for an IM5, it would have to be the
Performance version. You obviously don't really need 750 bhp. But knowing it's there, I would just have to have it.
Perhaps that's just me. 🙂👍

My IM6 LR gives me at least as good efficiency as my Ioniq 5.
