MG ZS EV - Vehicle to Load - adapter not recognised

I have just purchased an V2L Adapter from Amazon which states it is compatible with my 2023 ZS EV.

When I select my discharge screen I the following is shown which looks correct...

When I connect the adapter to the car, I get the following message:

Am I doing something wrong or is the adapter rubbish and I should just return it. If so can anyone recommend one that actually works with the ZS EV please?

No it doesn't. Here is what I bought and it works on my 2025 car. You tell them your car spec on order

To me it looks like your adaptor has the wrong resistor value inside.

There is a resistor inside that tells the car what kind of cable is connected (And if it is a charger cable, it also signals to the box on the wall, how much current it can handle)

If they put the wrong resistor inside, the car will think this is a charge cable, and not a discharge adaptor

The one you have linked to does not appear to take a UK plug. Do you use an additional adapter?

I've looked at it and can't see any UK plug in the examples displayed.

I can't be certain looking at the socket, and I would have expected an image of a UK plug as they display a range of accepted plugs. But if you have this actual item and have plugged in a UK plug, then I'll take your word for it.

some 2023 cars need V2L fixed, before you buy from that guy on eBay, make sure you tell them what car you have and ask if you can return it if it doesn't work on your model. Mine is 2022 and it works. Have a look on other threads about V2L on this forum

Thanks, I spotted those threads, though it isn't clear if there is a way to identify if V2L works without trying an adapter that you know is reliable.
I've sent a message to the eBay seller, but will probably go ahead and buy, and if it doesn't work hope that the dealer can sort it for me - we have a connection.

I've just traded my MG5 in for a 74 plate ZS Trophy Connect and the only issue is a non functioning V2L using an MG specific adapter with UK outlet bought from Ebay.

When plugged in I get the 'Discharge adapter not plugged in screen' but the car itself knows that something is plugged in because I get the 'can't drive' message on the speedo screen.

So, I trundled to my dealer and they plugged my adapter into a same model car and - lo and behold - it works. The car has now been through the workshop at the dealer and had the latest software updates and errors checked and cleared and still no joy. They have put a call out to MG Technical but said it could take days/weeks to get a reply (is that good enough?).

Any ideas, anyone?

Probably fitted with the wrong inverter. Was the car sold as having V2L?

It may not work, but try plugging the cable in before opening the discharge screen.
The car may recognise it if it is plugged in first
Try stuff like doors all closed and locked too. There are some vagaries in software that we sometimes have to play around with.
We have a Gen 1 ZS EV so no VTL for us

Mine still not working. It went back to the dealer a couple of weeks ago for diagnostics and they referred it to MG Technical. They told me today that a part has been ordered - I didn't get to find out what the part is! Watch this space...
