MG4 : 1st Service : What to expect?

Do you get breakdown cover included in that price?
I am assuming so, as it was blazened around everywhere when being persuaded to buy. However I can find no obvious mention anywhere now, and both the MG and dealer's service-plan webpages account for every type of fuel-powered vehicle of every age and whatever. So no specific mention for MG or other electric.

You get it for free as part of the warranty, for one year. Renewed without charge on year basis if you respect the service intervals for the duration of the warranty.
Tyres damage or puncture is excluded tho.

Then that's the same as the UK, so a very good price (at ca. £55) ... and, frankly, is a much more realistic one for the job too - particularly if they give the car a wash too.

Yes, the 'servicing' nonsense has to come to an end in the EV era, it's legalised extortion.

The established manufacturers seem to think it's cool to follow Tesla's lead in many instances, wish they would adopt the 'no servicing required' policy too

The "problem" is that Tesla don't have a dealer network as such, so don't have to pander to them in terms of generating revenue streams. Unless or until all manufacturers do likewise then the servicing model will remain - either that or the price of cars will significantly rise.

Very true, but it just irritates me that you know your EV gets - and indeed needs - practically nothing during these visits, an expensive car wash is an apt description.

Mine is due it's 2 yr service in December, no doubt they'll automatically change the brake fluid for a hefty fee.
I dipped the fluid reservoir with a pretty good tester a couple of weeks ago and it didn't even register the minimum 1% moisture level on it's scale, the fluid is likely fine for at least another 2 years.

Things like properly stripping down the brake calipers to lubricate the pins and pad ears, and renewing the reduction box oil at (say) 50k miles would be genuinely useful for people who can't or don't want to do these things themselves. But that would be too much like sense I suspect.

Can anyone please tell me if I miss my first service of 15,000 as my car is immaculate and the car is washed regularly sometimes twice a week and cleaned inside the screen wash is all full and it looks like all the brake fluids are all okay and the coolants are all okay Is it worth spending £94 for someone just to look over it and go? Oh it’s okay and would it matter on my service book? If the first one is missed? Please let me know.

It will probably matter if you have to make a warranty claim, your 7-year warranty is dependent on the car being serviced on time/mileage every year.

In addition to the warranty angle above, do you own the car outright? Or is it under a lease or PCP contract? If the latter then the car is owned by the lease or finance company*, so you must abide by the terms of the contract - which almost certainly say the car must be serviced in accordance with manufacture guidelines.

Dealer servicing also means getting required software updates (e.g. SC007 to improve LKA), plus it means MG Assist (AA) recovery gets renewed for another year.

Remember that servicing is 15k miles or 12 months, whichever comes first.

* Lease = car is always owned by the lease company. PCP = the car is owned by the finance company until you clear the finance and pay the final balloon amount.

There is no service booklet, the servicing details are held by MG, not the best IMHO, so ensure you get a copy of the service (i.e. invoice). If you have missed one of the service milestones then your warranty will be void, you can wash it as much as you want. Also the yearly breakdown service will be lost as well, for the sake of £70-80 for the first service it does seem an error to have missed the first service.

In addition to the above, main dealer services (all done on time) should also result in a better price for your car when you eventually sell. It's usually one of the first questions any trader/buyer will ask when valuing it, hence a good idea to keep all paper invoices.
