MG4 Frunk now available

This is Amazon Australia, and they are embarrassingly expensive haha I must’ve been in a rush to get them, at the moment delivery seems to still take a month though, I’m pretty sure mine came quicker than that.

I checked the dates and mine came in about two weeks, judging by the order date and when I left a review for them.

I recently got one from evaccessoriesireland and It works great! It has a nice deep cylindrical well that is perfect for a coiled type2/granny charger. It even fits a full sized umbrella, really a lot bigger than it looks! A couple of downsides I've noticed though:
  • if you're using the original metal stand to hold the bonnet open, the lip of the frunk is higher than the original plastic cover, so the stand has to bow a little to clip back into the original clips. Thinking of adding washers as 'risers' to solve this, or getting the hydraulic struts, since the frunk was designed with those in mind (cutouts for where the struts go).
  • the frunk seems to make a little noise when you start driving, it's held in completely by the original clips and I think there's a little play. I suspect adding a thin rubber or felt sheet to where it rests on the metal beam might help, I'll also try this out soon too.

Despite this, the quality is solid and I love it. It's a great addition, and at a good price when on sale (:

They should still be having their black friday sale right now if anyone's interested.

UPDATE - I added a little fabric flannel tape to the front lip of the frunk, where it sits on the metal beam, and the noise while driving has completely gone.

Seeing this photo I think the Ireland one is my best bet. The vertical space should be good for my extension lead and charger if I ever bring it with me and I should still have some space left, also the short delivery time is tempting since I don't want to have to wait. I have already bought gas struts however they will take awhile to come, but I'm glad it looks like this one has the cut outs. Did you have to ask specifically for it?

I have the frunk.at one.
It’s doesn’t give you massive of space but does clear some things from the trunk I don’t use daily. I have put more stuff in it since I took this install photo.

I like the fact it clips on to ball joints so easy to quickly remove if needed with no tools.

I have the gas struts to add but not a chance to put them in yet.

I like the openness of this one more but the lack of vertical space means my extension lead likely wouldn't fit as it has a massive connector at one end.

I didn't realise there was a black Friday code for the Ireland site too (The frunk.at Black Friday Deal doesn't apply because "it's already on sale") so with the black Friday deal the Ireland one is just even better. Discount code is "BLACK25" for anyone interested but I imagine it ends soon.

nope, I didn't ask for it specifically, it came like that as ordered. You can always email them to confirm! The guys there replied me pretty fast when I was asking some questions.

Just realised my insurer replied to me and said they wont provide cover for my gas struts but will for the frunk anyone know why? Slightly worrying as unlike the frunk the gas struts I dont think are as easy to remove for service/mot. Slightly worried about getting tailgate ones now too for the same reason.

They probably just don’t want to cover an item that wears from being used. I doubt service or mot care, a lot of cars have gas struts for the bonnet.
The way they worded it suggests my installing them would invalidate my policy but I have yet to get a reply confirming it.

Invalidating the policy is harsh - fair enough if they don't want to cover your modifications, but they'd need a good reason why gas struts are a risk to the whole policy. Unless they misunderstood and thought you meant you'd installed LPG or something?

This is the reply I got “ I'm sorry, your insurer can't provide cover for your modification on this occasion. Changes to your policy are subject to your insurer agreeing to them. Some of these result in an extra cost, but in some cases the change isn’t acceptable, and cover is declined. Sorry we can’t see, or tell you, the exact reasons why we’re unable to offer cover.” I have replied asking for some things to be clarified but it doesn’t look good and they won’t even tell me why.
