MG4 Insurance Issues

Well, I've just had another email response from Aviva.
What do you make of this;

Hello Bernard,

Thank you for contacting us.

I have reviewed your query and can confirm that the policy holder, spouse, private lease would need to be the registered keeper noted on your vehicle policy.

We will decline to insure your vehicle if the lending company is noted as the registered keeper and legal owner of the vehicle.

I can appreciate that the information I have provided is not the information you were hoping for however it is the correct information.

Should you have any further questions, please contact us via email.

Do you think they are saying, no we won't insure you if you be honest about who is the "registered owner ", or are they indirectly telling me to lie and tell them that I'm the owner?
YOU are the registered keeper. You just need to put your name in the box. It is not your finance company.

It is NOT about who owns the car. This is why you are getting confused.

Edit: Their language is terrible as they are confusing the two things every time they talk to you.

Edit2: The two concepts are separate, so they should ask for registered keeper and owner separately, if they care about the latter. With this level of confusion I would steer clear of them and go with someone else.

I think they are saying, "I don't read or write English but I can copy/paste bits & pieces from my swipe file to answer as many emails per minute for my bonus"
I think you're right about that!
However, finance companies quote this (this is from Ocean Finance's website);
However, if you take out car finance, you will receive all of the legal documentation for the car including a V5 registration document that confirms you are the registered keeper (not the owner). In this case, the car will still be owned by the finance company.

I'd go through a broker and let them sort it out.
I've used Cornmarket Insurance for many years and with a bit of negotiation I've had competitive quotes.

I'm collecting my car on saturday, LV say it could be three weeks before they transfer cover from my ZS EV as they don't have the MG4 listed.
MG UK have notified all dealers of the problem today and are offering free five day insurance according to my dealer.

I had this issue with my current insurer, but worked it out on others like Compare the Market - MG is listed twice, once just as MG and again below that as MG Motor, and you need to choose the latter, where the 4 is listed. Not even my dealer knew this.

There's no such thing as a registered owner! Period! In fact that email above doesn't even mention the word owner.

Just get the quote/whatever based on you being the registered keeper - which is what you will be. Ownership is an irrelevance as you'll still be liable to the finance company if anything happens to the car.

Edit: I didn't see other replies before posting. :)

I'm collecting my new car tomorrow morning! 😁 Received notification of the VRM this morning.

Insurance now all sorted ... I added the car as Multicover to my Admiral home insurance policy. £174.91 (inc. Motor Legal) for 188 days cover ... equates to ~£340 per year.

I previously had a quote from LV= for ~£284 per year, but that was based on arranging the insurance a few weeks ahead - tried a quote this morning and they want ~£419 per year.

Oooo.. exciting! Hope you really enjoy it.

Thanks for the tip about Multicover, I didn’t know that was a thing.

You haven't seen the myriad of Admiral adverts on TV? 😲

I have the Admiral app on my phone - I just did the quote and purchase that way. :)

My understanding from a police friend of mine is .
The Owner of the vehicle is the one whose name is on the receipt / Invoice,
The registered keeper is the name on the V5.
The person named on the insurance MUST be the main driver.
We have never had any issues with my name being on the Invoice and V5 but wife is the main driver and her name is on the insurance with me being named driver.

Although I haven't got a delivery date yet I thought I'd get a quote from MG insurance just to see how much a company who puts itself forward as an MG insurance specialist would charge.
I nearly fell off my chair £1525.96
Five times the amount I've been quoted elsewhere

You must be a bad risk, they quoted me £1,085. Stayed with LV £297.

With PCP you are the registered keeper & owner not the PCP loan company. The car is their security guarantee that you will pay or they take it to cover the loan.

If your house was mortgaged, you wouldn't put the local bank down as the registered owner would you as your name is on the deeds!

I asked all the same Qs with my first PCP and got blank looks too!

Actually I'm not sure the mortgage payer's name is on the deeds - at least not until the mortgage is paid off. (Apart from that the mortgage lender holds the deeds until it is paid off anyway).

Your deeds and any Endowments to cover a bank loan for a house are in your name but have a legal interest attached to them that must be cleared by that interest before you can access them.

When I tried to do something a few years ago it was blocked by the Halifax who I hadn't dealt with for 20 years. Sorting it was painful!

I went with Beam (AA), eventually. At £270 they worked out cheaper than Aviva anyway! Also when I rang them, I actually spoke to a real person, who said to enter my own name as the owner.

That would probably been the right thing to have done with Aviva, but because of their blinkered thinking in trying to automate everything, they have lost my business, completely.
Well, almost completely, I still have a £95 per year annuity from them, but I won't be insuring with them again.

I currently have a Nissan Juke insured by Halifax until April 2023. I'm expecting my new MG4 imminently and called Halifax for a quote. A surly woman answered, didn't listen to what I was saying, couldn't initially find the MG4 on her lists despite checking both MG headings. Finally she found it and told me that she could not quote because I do not yet have a registration number. To make matters worse, if I cancel my existing insurance with them they will charge £55 and the refund for unused cover until April will be £5!! Rip off. Unhelpful. Poor customer service. Harumph.
