MG4 Insurance Issues

I'm collecting my car tomorrow and have spent all day trying to change my insurance from the toyota yaris I'm trading in , one call direct ,the broker, could not get the underwriters to insure me.I still have 6 months to run on existing insurance. So I have to cancel that and get quoted again £330 and no refund .I have gone on various comparison sites , they didn't recognise my reg number ,they also dont recognise MG4 as an MG vehicle unless you pick MG Motor Uk then your spec ie SE long range
Best result was compare the market £186.30 + £25 legal cover with a company called Boom so £211.30 but no breakdown cover. Hope this helps anyone struggling like I was
I had the same issue and was going to go with NFU, we was with Arvia and when we phone them to tell them we had changed our car they said why are you cancelling we can change the car on your current policy which is valid until March 23 for a cost of £30 if you do want to cancel that will cost £58 needless to say we are still with them up to next March, then we will look at it again.

Just one other point why do you need breakdown cover the car comes with full AA breakdown cover for 12 months and if you have the car serviced at a MG dealer when it’s a year old they will give you a further years AA cover every time it’s serviced year on year no need to pay extra on your insurance.hope this helps.

You don't need breakdown cover - you already have it for the first year. (MG Assist, provided by The AA). And if you get your service at a franchised dealer then you get another year's cover.

Edit: I didn't see the above post when making this reply :)

@Sloucher First result on google search shows this

@Les burrows can I ask where you got the phone number from for Aviva? I'm currently with them and would be looking at transferring my existing policy, but they don't deem to publish a phone number!
Yeh I know I had the same problem but I got them on one of these this numbers below
0345 030 7077. or.
0345 035 7859
When you get through there is quite few menus to navigate but not to difficult really

Not sure if anyone else had said this but I had to tell my insurer that the Manufacturer is MG motor UK. Then they found it .
I'm paying £12/ month less on Admiral Multi car than we were due to pay at renewal for Arona and wife's Fiat 500

Just had to cancel my LV insurance as they say they are not insuring the MG4 yet?? Crazy how much custom they will lose. Had quote via Go.Compare a few days ago so used that Quotemehappy. Nearly £100 less than the XC40 so happy with that.

I have just called Direct Line for a quote on the MG4. Was told that they do not have it on their system and it was not likely to appear soon. I was also told shockingly that Direct Line are not covering lots of EVs because their repair centres do not have the capability to repair EVs.

Bit of a Kodak moment!

I raised a complaint & told them if they didn't sort it they would lose all of my custom!

Catch 22. Direct Line insist on their own repair centres but to keep the 7 year warrenty you have to have MG parts which I guess their repair centres don't always use.

I guess that is why they cannot repair them as they cannot source parts / repair?

Just complained via Twitter to Direct Line to see if they are the next Kodak or not!

Reply - again waffle about new model, not on system etc etc etc

It's on comparison websites though!

Have been worried about insurance costs as the 4 is around 10 groups higher than my current car ( Leon TDI ) Remembered I took a few pics of the dealer demo Trophy I had on test drive last week so just ran that through compare the market.
Pleased to see tons of familiar names quote on the car - esure flex was cheapest at £194 ! Pleasantly surprised, I am middle aged with no claims or convictions since my early twenties but still.

I have an SE SR on order so that might be slightly cheaper still

Is that the same Direct Line who claim to be EV Specialists, offering extra benefits to EV and Hybrid car owners and "making electric easy"?

It sounds like their underwriters need to speak to their marketing team!

I am actually with Direct Line, and in my instance with a Golf GTE they are actually very competitive.

I asked about those benefits and was told . . . .wait for it . . .

I could not have them because I already had an EV o_O

Direct Line are only interested in NEW custom. They always have been.
I used to be with them and queried why if I went on-line, and in effect was a new customer, it was a lot cheaper than the renewal notice despite the fact that they would have to create a new account, new payments etc.
Their response was something along the lines of "because that's the way it is." They lost my car insurance and house insurance businesses and I've never been back to them or any of their associated companies.

Yes ,I realised today when I picked the car up, and bought the servce plan, breakdown was included so not needed on insurance

LV now calling themselves ABC are the underwriters for MG Insurance. When i pointed this out to them they agreed to change my ZS EV cover to my MG4. Cost extra £71.
