MG4 SE Owners - Rear Speakers

I have managed to get the rear right card off the door - I got some specials pry tools off Amazon which did the trick - needed a metal bar!

I can report that there is no speaker cable present in the door on an SE sadly.

Next to upgrade the (terrible) front speakers…! I have already removed the tweeters, that was easy.
That’s a shame, makes the job more difficult then 😂 and doesn’t look like getting access to the rear of the stereo is straight forward either 🤷🏽‍♂️

Hi all. I’m planning to add rear speakers to my SE, was thinking of wire tapping from the front door speakers. Any thoughts?

I will be adding rear speakers to my se shortly. Having taken advice from an audio specialist I will be installing a small 2 channel amp in the rear boot underfloor and taking a feed from the front speakers. Question I have is there a remote cable from head unit to provide a switched live to the amp? I’ll be taking a feed from the 12v battery to power it but don’t want the amp on all the time hence the remote feed. Does anybody know what cabling is on the audio unit?
For info my dealer has ordered me a pair of trophy rear speakers for the princely sum of £7.56! They come complete with brackets and interconnects!

Could I offer an alternative suggestion to this thread I know this doesn't give you rear speakers but some people may just want improve their overall sound quality. I have replaced the front speakers in both my MGs (ZS/MG5), using the same units transferred, JBL GX602 165mm and I also fitted a Pioneer Under seat Sub unit TS-WX130 135w with built in class D amplifier. I don't know if you have enough space under the MG4 seats the MG5 is very tight but the wiring kit has plenty of length so I have fitted the sub in the boot under floor. The difference is great and to me is well worth the money as I am music mad. The increase in bass and overall sound is substantial. You will need 'car speaker spacers/adapters' they are about £7/8, the JBLs are £45, the sub with remote wired controller unit £145. There are some JBLs that come with separate tweeters which could be used to replace the existing ones see amazon links below.

Anyone knows how to remove the rear door cards? I am keen to check if wiring harness for rear speaker might already be there? Odd chance I know.
It will have the same harness for the trophy as on the se. The spur for the rear speakers will be blanked and the software will be an expensive MG upgrade. OEM may help if you don't want the warranty.

In the SE you can connect new rear speaker wiring to the pins of the headunit (they are empty) and the speakers will work. You can follow the wiring diagrams that Rayzfun posted in MG4 Will upgrade all speakers and add a sub
The fader control is not going to be available, but it is a cheap solution.
If it´s too complicated for you, changing the stock twiters will improve greately the sound quality.

Yes.
Since you posted the wiring diagrams I wanted to try it before buying an amplifier.
Both rear speakers work. Balance works but Fader won't. The polarity of the cables as the diagram.
Thank you for the info rayzfun!

How did you connect the cabling into the back of the head unit? Did you need to use some pins or can you just push the cable in or did you need to solder them

For testing I put the wires through the back of the connector.
I used these mercedes pins that I had at home. I don´t know the proper pin that the MG conector uses, but the fitment with the pins in head unit is perfect.
The pin with the plastic enclosure does not fit properly but good enough for me.

Is it 2 cables going into each pin I see 2 cables but not sure if there should be 4 ( l & r x 2)

Sorry for being stupid but I thought that the audio connectors were in the light green multi plug (according to my schematic)
