MG4 Software Update Thread

Had an update on Friday.

Radio and AC buttons seem to have changed.

As I mentioned in another thread it hasn't changed the functionality of the ACC, unfortunately. Others said it works better after an update.

Looking at the infotainment we now have R33, and I didn't record what it was before.

Did you have an external temperature indication on the Infotainment screen before? If yes then you likely had R13; if no then it'll have been R16 or R21. (R33 brought the indication back, and now to 0.5°C increments vs the 1°C increments of R13).

We did have temperature readings from the start!

Does that mean that we had the earliest version even though I was assured upon buying the car that all software was updated? (Having asked for this to be done by the dealer).

They assured me that mine was the latest update when I collected it in April last year. By that time R16 had been out for some time. My car was on R13. I didn't make a fuss because R16 lost the temperature display, and I couldn't see what was gained. If I'd known that R21 fixed the USB player (although still losing the temperature display) I might have said something, but I didn't.

R33 has been out since late last year and despite screaming about it since April, I still haven't got it.

Mine was delivered with R13 in Nov '22 ... and I believe that this was the latest at that time. R16 came out not long afterwards followed by R21. R33 came out Oct/Nov '23 and so I got it at my first service. (I have a dealer who is willing to work with me).

I have a dealer who will not see me for dust once he's finally done that update, and the undertray fix. Rude, patronising and obstructive. I don't want my car washed (thus destroying the evidence of the fault in the washer jets) or a fancy video demonstrating that my 6 month old tyres have good tread depth or my 12v connections are secure, I want R33 and the undertray fixed.

I've owned the car for a year now.

What version of software (entertainment system) do you have? Have you asked for updates? You should have passed the first service if you owned it for one year.

P.S My car sw version is R40 (MG4 LUX)

My dealer doesn’t do SW updates except forced module ones during service. Every other car I have owned would update maps and all software during service. My dealer doesn’t even clean cars anymore.

A month ago, I went for scheduled maintenance, and they said there were no updates. I'll let you know when I'm in the car what software version I have.

Couldn't agree more re the videos etc .
I had to tell my dealer that my infotainment system was dropping android auto to get them to carry out and update as " the car isn't calling for it". So you could try that if you haven't already. This was carried out around 4 months ago. The car's just had it's second service and I've been promised a new undertray and a further software update after advising that the left hand star button is not working. We'll see when that happens!

I have been screaming about the USB audio player not working properly since I got the bloody car. They had several pages of A4 from me within the first few months detailing a bunch of things that I know are fixed with R33. Then before the service was due I sent them another couple of A4 pages recapping these faults (USB player, lights coming on too early, radio coming on when it's not wanted, the ususal stuff) and said I understood all these things I had moaned about last year were sorted with R33, so get it done.

When I picked up the car not only was it not done, they didn't even have the decency to tell me it hadn't been done, never mind think up an excuse. The first try was "we only do that if the customer complains." Can you believe it?

I'm determined to make them do it, and the undertray, and fix the charging port lights. Then we will be parting company forever.

Had the issue with my left star button. They had to downgrade and upgrade again to R33 to fix it.

I find that my left star button occasionally loses its setting ... not sure if it coincides with a 100% + balance charge, or whether that is just coincidence. (I had it yesterday, just after doing a full charge).

@siteguru, interesting about the loss of a function. I did an 8% to 100% BMS/balancing charge yesterday using my new Ohme Pro EVSE ready for today's journey. The ACC/Speed Limit function had switched itself off. Initially I thought that the lack of ACC was due to limited regen capability at 100% (cf OPD) but found the Off button was highlighted and I had not touched it.

Had my Trophy updated today to R59, from R30, as there has been a few oddities (freezing radio/satnav, and black screen if auto headlights going on and off too quick), and I've only had the car a few weeks. They said they did several other updates as well, including the "Front Radar, Main Computer, Charger Unit", so we'll see what happens.

It did seem less aggressive on is braking in ACC, and the LKA never kicked in on some of the roads where it has previously been quite aggressive, so looks positive so far.

I think that the PDI for every car should include plugging the car in and updating all of the modules. I know that this takes time but it would save so much annoyance for so many owners.

It isn't. It is the cost model that MG uses everywhere. I happens down under and in Europe as well

My dealer said he had done exactly that. But the car was still on R13, some time after R16 had become available.

With regards to over air software updates. My garage had to highlight problems with screen freezing and dropping bluetooth as reasons for the update to R59, which is then at MG's cost. Hopefully with Mg getting hit by the customers software update costs they will be encouraged to get overair updates working ASAP.
