MG4 Software Update Thread

I entered Engineering Mode, then went to USB Update > Infotainment ECU. It checked if I was in P (Park), etc. After a reboot, an error appeared.

USB flashdrive FAT32.

Maybe i will try another USB or only the update.zip without the other files?

Looks like I’m stuck on version R63 on my MG4 SE.

When I went to the car, I noticed that the display was still on. It had frozen during the first update attempt, and I had to disconnect the 12V battery.

I tried the update multiple times afterwards – even using the R38 package – but nothing worked.

When I tap on “Infotainment ECU” in the update menu, it shows the restart prompt, but the car doesn’t reboot. It just freezes and nothing happens.

When I try “AVN MPU”, it says that more than one update file exists on the USB stick.

I haven’t tested with NTFS formatting, since FAT32 used to work without issues.

So for now, I’ll probably just stick with the R63 version and wait for R67 to be released but my next scheduled service is in five months anyway. 🫣

I think part of the problem might be my new MacBook. Back when I used my old Windows PC, the updates from R33 to R38 and R63 worked without any issues!

It seems to be fixed…
I don’t have pairing issues anymore!
Yep same for me. Had trophy for 6 months and been back 3 times for software updates. Last one yesterday for Bluetooth issues and all OK now. Touch wood. I was told that I might need to update phone to Android 15,but all OK on 13 now.

Is there a sips counter part for the R40 or R67 needed?
Would be nice if someone can grab it.. had my 1st Service today.. and R67 ist Not available according to the Service team.. at least here in Germany. But I doubt that info.

If you had R38 installed along with the SIPS update, then no. I already had R38 and then installed R40, checked with SIPS and everything was up to date. Back when I was still on R38, I had to re-pair Bluetooth with my phone every time I used CarPlay, but now with R40 it stays connected.

Yeah, same here! I used to have to re-pair Bluetooth with my phone every time I used CarPlay back when I was on R38, but after installing R40 it finally stays connected. Looks like they actually fixed it.

I already have R63 with SIPS Counterpart.. I did it myself. Just was asking if I had to recheck with SIPS after R67. Last time it was needed for the Charge Limit setting and maybe for the HVAC besides the HVAC Module. But now would like to get the R67 to fix the Bluetooth finally. 😉 So if anyone can have it, feel free to share.

R67 don't necessary need FICM MCU uptade but you can do it (68.9.4.0). But if you have T63, you can upgrade from 68.7.4.0 to 68.9.7.0 waiting R67 intall

Hi, R40 actually CAN be updated by USB, that's how I upgraded my car. Both MPU and MCU can be upgraded... The files are here on my OneDrive if you want. Unfortunately, I have not been able to grab R67 yet, but that doesn't mean it's not upgradeable through USB (at least for the MPU).

A Friend has bought a 2023 se 64 kw, can he upgrade to R40, is the Sips config required? He is on a very buggy R13 at the mo.

You can upgrade from R13 to R40, but the other ECUs in your friend’s car are likely outdated too.

The car would need a comprehensive upgrade, not just the infotainment system.
Wdym by 'comprehensive upgrade'?

I had previously same version r13, and upgraded to r40 by myself via usb, is there anything else that i can do?

Yes.. all of the cars control systems are not related to the USB Update for the Infotainment. Only a small portion which interacts with the Modules is in the Infotainment usb update. The Car Modules (BMS, ECU, BCM ..) are updated via SIPS though the OBD Interface. Update for LKA are as well only installed via SIPS... So while updating the Infotainment the rest of the car is still "old" in SW Update regards..
