MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

I encountered the same problem (MG4 Luxury from late 2023). I'm back from the MG dealership... The bearings have just been replaced. The clicking noise is finally gone! Driving pleasure is back.

Regarding my dealership: excellent! I was listened to, the after-sales service was responsive, and the parts were available within a week. This is just my experience, but it seems to confirm the priority MG has set for itself in France: after its implementation phase, it prioritizes customer satisfaction.

Have not noticed the noise decreasing when cornering . The noise was not there prior to the 1st year service but I have the second due in December and will see what they say.

Very odd noise, I don't think there can be a major fault within the bearing like one of the balls or races as that would surely lead to failure quite quickly, it's more like the bearing cage or cover is chafing on the rotating components

As I said I stripped the brakes and even the wheel speed sensor from the assembly leaving just the bearing as the only moving part and the clickity clacking was still there.

It does sound like the noise is within the cabin , possibly behind the steering wheel which confused me for a while but if it's increasing in frequency ( clicks per second :) ) in relation to road speed then I would investigate the hubs.

P.S that's not my video, just one I found on the tube so it's obviously a common ? problem.

Have you changed the two front bearing in warranty?

Have you changed the two front bearing in warranty?
Yes, both wheel bearings were replaced. My MG4 is less than two years old, so it was covered under warranty. But this type of problem doesn't seem to be related to a wear part (my vehicle only has 16,000 km) and therefore it will be covered by the 7-year warranty.

Unless you abuse a car you will never destroy wheel bearings yourself. Either they were bad to begin with, or the mechanics failed.

Yes, that's what I think too. Defective part or assembly fault (bearings insufficiently greased or poorly secured, etc.).

Some news regarding warranty coverage:
In France, those who had their wheel bearings replaced before the vehicle's two-year mark (like me) had the work covered.

However, after two years, this seems to be causing problems for some users. Their dealership, and MG, don't appear to recognize the seven-year warranty for this, nor a bearing defect. It seems the only solution for them is to involve their insurance company's legal assistance (with an expert report proving defective bearings, independent of any wear).

I got an appointment for January to troubleshoot it. I'll give an update on how MG Germany will handle it. The car will be almost 3 years old, with 22 000kms... It would be a difficult argument calling this normal wear...

Because MG Europe and MG UK are different organizations?
I think what MG Clive is trying to say is all the cars are built in china so as like him IAM trying to understand why in France only 2 years for wheel bearings and 3 in the UK . I think I would take it further and ask the question why the difference, that's my opinion though.

Hello, my car is an MG4 Luxury with 21,000 km on it. At 20,000 km, a ticking noise started coming from behind the steering wheel. The noise appears at around 15 km/h and becomes inaudible at 60 km/h. It is definitely not a trim noise; it's a mechanical sound, but I haven't been able to figure out the cause. I took the car to the service center, and they also said it wasn't normal. They removed the lower part of the steering column to inspect it but didn't find anything. Abviously they didn't seem very interested. It's really an annoying sound. Does anyone know what might be causing it?

Edit: Ac is off, i tried regenerative 1,2,3 and one pedal mode and noise is still there. Also glass holder is empty and i insulated passsenger side ventilation under the globebox and front speaker cap under the windshield. I think it's not trim noise. Also I noticed that the sound disappears when I turn the steering wheel 45 degrees to the left or right at speeds of 15-20 km/h

Here is the video I took this morning.

I had similar if not exactly the same with my previous MG4, it was exactly as your video, I found it was the plastic screen behind the steering wheel, kind of rattle or tick, by holding the screen to the plastic surround, the noise stopped, have you tried doing that? I thought of jamming something into the gap around the screen, but never got around to it, replaced it for an S5, that cured the rattle /tick 😂😂

Definitely in the UK, but the wheel bearings will be the same for every country, so I don't see why MG France should limit the warranty to only 2 years.
Do you get this in the UK?:

SAIC Motor-CP and MG Sales (Thailand), manufacturer and distributor of MG cars in Thailand, has announced an extended lifetime warranty for four MG models as part of the brand's 100th anniversary. The four models are the new MG4 Electric, MG Maxus 9, MG Maxus 7 and the new MG Cyberster.

Also, some countries allow servicing every 2 years on the MG4, instead on every year as in the UK. Different markets offer different warranty conditions based on what the local distributors will accept.
