Hi

Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong but I'm not sure I am. My car won't charge to 100%, I usually charge it to around 80 but when I want to get it to 100 for longer journeys, it gets to 97 and then stops. I've checked the app and I've got it set to 100, just wondering if I'm doing something wrong

Thanks

Edit:
Sorry, MG4 Trophy, had it since May

Check the battery screen in the car as well as the app to see if that's also set at 100%.

Thanks for the replies
So i haven't tried on a granny charger but I have this happen on a rapid DC charger and an AC 7kwh charger

I'm trying to balance the battery by getting to 100 just a bit stuck but will try my granny charger next time

Is it normal for a car not to get to 100% on a rapid charger no matter how long you leave it?

I once left my car on the rapid charger for the allowed 54 minutes while I was in church starting at a relatively high SoC, and when I snuck out to disconnect it, it was only on 98%. I had vaguely expected it to get to 100% in the time, but I just assumed that it had slowed down so much at the end that it hadn't quite got there.

Reasons why you may not reach 100% on a rapid charger:

  • Charger detects low rate of charge and stops the charge (charger policy).
  • Car detects high battery temperature and/or low rate of charge and terminates the charge.
  • Car needs a balance and so terminates charge early as added protection.
  • Bugs

Are you sure it’s not your wall charger, I was at 37% and told the charger to charge the car to charge by 60%.. and it did.. to 97%… it was an Ohme so you have to tell it a percentage, as it can’t talk to the car yet (he said in the vague hope that one day it will…)

Just plugged in our new home charger, and the car is showing ‘slow charge’ on the screen.

This is a 7.4kw wallbox, and the message hasnt been seen previously using a 22kw charger at a hotel or a granny at home.

Any ideas? ?

According to page 173 of the manual, MG call anything 11kW or less slow chargers.
Thanks kithmo.

Would you know the answer to this one at all? Wall box app won’t let you designate a start time for the charge, it will only let you set the kilowatt rate that you are happy to charge yet. When my EV tariff low rate kicks in at 12 am, presumably the wall box is then going to be able to see that 10p per kilowatt is now available to us and start charging?

I would much rather there just be an option to start charging at a certain time as we know when the lower overnight rate will kick in.

I would just set the charging schedule on the car or the wall box but not both.
My charger is a Pod Point and I set the schedule on it to my off peak rate times and don't set a schedule on the car (just the charge to 80% option) and plug the car in. It starts charging when the Pod Point comes live and finishes when the battery gets to 80%.
Alternatively, I could turn off the Pod Point scheduling and set the schedule on the car instead.
I'm not sure your wall box will see when the off peak rate will be active, unless you're on one these intelligent tariffs and you wall box complies with the suppliers signal.
I would think if you're going to only charge off peak then it's best to set the schedule on your wall box if it has that feature and don't bother setting the timer in the car.

Unfortunately the MG scheduling app is too unreliable for use, it just wont accept the command.

To compound that, this wallbox does not allow scheduled charging to start at 12am for example. Instead, you are to select the EV tariff you’re on and select what is an ‘acceptable’ p/kwh to pay and then set a ‘ready by’ time which presumably stops the charging.

So, unless the box is going to ‘see’ when our low rate overnight charging kicks in (we do have smart meters), then i’m failing to see how its going to know to start charging - meaning it doesnt charge.
