They test drive that was posted , was dry weather 21° and a mix of roads, 30, 60, and dual carriageway, the poster worked it out as the range would have been 179 miles.

I believe the insurance group is group 40, the SR is group 21 and LR is 28

Depends. People might have to cover more than that in a day, stopping somewhere where there is no chance to charge. And there are people (I used to be one of them) who aim bull-headedly at their destination, and who grudge even a five-minute stop to fill their petrol tank.

I can see that for some people a longer range is very desirable. I was chatting to my financial advisor, who has days when she makes a round of three or four clients driving over 200 miles, and she can't rely on being able to charge while she's in people's houses drinking coffee and talking return on investments. She has a Golf. It's probably a bit early for her to go EV, but in a few years with larger-capacity batteries and faster charging, she should find that changes.

(She came from Ayrshire to visit me in the Borders, then she said she was going to Lanark next, so far so good. But then I swear the next word she said was Tighnabruaich, at which point my brain went into a flat spin. Either that was preceded by "tomorrow", or that Golf can swim.)

I was £226 for the MG4, I’m £240 for the Born.
We’re £219 for the Evoque with business cover.
We’re 4 miles outside Aberdeen.

£400 for London seems cheap to me, but it seems dear for Rolfe given she gives the impression she lives in Auchterlesstermuchty.

EV power is a game changer in that it is relatively easy to endow an already brisk car with 450+ bhp by the addition of a motor. However, this additional power needs well thought through other mods to make it safely useable. I'm yet to be convinced that a proliferation of sub £40k/sub 4 sec to 60 rocket cars will do us any road safety favours - but certainly tempted to buy one before Treasury types introduce penal purchase/road tax rates on them.

It may be time to change insurers. This happened when I got the Golf. I had been with the RAC Insurance for ages, and hadn't bothered much because the firm was paying. But when people swapped insurance prices on the GTi forum it was obvious that mine was too expensive. I cancelled it and went for the best price identified by GoCompare. Which was RAC Insurance. Less than half the price they'd been telling me year after year they'd identified as the best price they could get me.

I'm with Sheila's Wheels now, and have been for a bit. I thought the increase was because it was a brand new car (the Golf was practically on "heap of junk" rates) and an EV. But if other people are doing better, I need to shop around.

You could lease an SESR for about £260 month with very little down.

What is everyone’s guess for an x power?

I've had a quote of £700, I don't think that's too bad for the car

Out of curiosity I got quotes for an X Power I'm £494 from admiral.
I'm actually cheaper for a M3 Tesla and it's a higher insurance group

A fair bit, Auchtermuchty is in Fife @bowfer is near Aberdeen so about 80 odd miles ish

Yes, I know, its funny how 80 miles in Scotland can change entire dialects. One of my sons has been immersed in the Aberdonian tongue. I used to play team squash against one of the Buckpool teams (we played Gordonstoun teachers too). The excuse to get out of the horrible trip in mid February was known as Buckpool back. Fifers are more easily understood, but are much more thrawn...

So why aren’t they doing it?
Honestly, people are so fixated with the power/acceleration for a ‘bargain’ price that they’re overlooking the same old issues and some frankly laughable stuff.
I mean, come on, bolt on covers to make the calipers look bigger…
If the prospective owners of this car saw a Corsa with this they’d laugh at them.

Oh c'mon bowfer, you're secretly wondering just what this thing would feel like with 200 horse more than your Born for the same money. Give MG another chance, second time lucky surely

The calipers are cringe worthy though, they would be coming off immediately.
Seats look nice, wheels are nice, sensible tyres with a good sidewall depth.

Like most here I'm very tempted by the mere thought of a 3 point something 0-60 but I do wonder how much I'd actually make use of that once the novelty wore off.

I think the tyre wear and massive range dip from pulling 350 kW when sinking the go pedal would have me doing so more sparingly than I imagine. Maybe I'm just getting old

I paid 650 QUID!! For my SE LR, over a hundred pound more than my previous Tesla model 3 performance which has more than twice the power twice the cost and twice the performance of the MG!
I guess that’s the price of having one of the first on the road when not many insurance companies quoting??
