They need to squeeze down that pricing to £39,995 or sales are going to be poor. No one wants to be on the hook for that ludicrous tax burden.
I think people are happy to pay the luxury car tax for a perceived "luxury car" of which MG clearly isn't no matter their aspirations.

I know it's a different segment of car but I'd rather buy the standard range IM5 which has every bit of kit imaginable and is below the £40k tax band.

I actually think that is an own goal by MG because I don't think there is any competition between the IM 5 and the S6 even just in looks.

Did you mean the IM6? The IM5 is a saloon car, so not really comparable like for like.

Personally I don't like the look of the IM5, IM6, MGS5, or MGS6. They all look like dull, generic blobs!

The only real looker MG have at all now is the Cyberster.

Nope as I said above I know it's a different segment car, I was merely comparing the IM5 standard range, which is under the £40k luxury car tax to the trophy S6 which is above it

Agreed ms5/6 are no lookers. I hope the uk mg 4 doesnt follow the blob blandness and retains its sharper looks

Not sure I would trust French electrics!
Relative has a Mégane and it has been fault free for 3 years, OTA updates working without issue, including motor updates, safety systems that work without issue but can be disabled with a physical button and android automotive as it's operating system.

Wish the wife's MG4 could tick all the above or any off them

The Scenic is a handsome car too, MG could take some lessons from that type of styling, rather than the curvy generic blob route they're on now.

A lot of Chinese cars have a generic look, the new Geely could be an S5/6.

I actually prefer the S5 to the S6 I think the dimensions suit the design/look better.

The same with the IM5 over the 6, not a fan of the IM6 looks far too bloated.

I think with looks we have to accept we're not living through a period where they are a high priority for most makers - rule constrained as they are.

I'm ok with the looks of the IM5, although it is a copy of several different cars.
I generally hate the looks of all SUVs and am not a big fan, but I recognise I'm clearly in a minority since they are enormously popular.

No your not in any minority Tom I also am not a great fan of SUVs or saloon models and when my time comes to change if Im to stay in MG brand I might have to reset my options between the S5orS6 not as yet driven either but i have seen the S5.but i think the most likely to pull me across will be the s6 with the cream interior to be honest.

MGS6 Trophy long range £40995 329 mile range

Renault scenic esprit alpine £39995 372 miles range

Citroen ec5 air cross long range Max £38215 (after £3750 EV grant). 421 miles range

Kia ev5 air £39295 321 miles range

Tough competition
To be fair, the Scenic is nowhere near the size of the MGS6. It'd be like comparing a Juke to an X-Trail.
The eC5 Aircross is a strong contender, but it's not got the same sort of quality finish as the MG.
The EV5 Air is the entry level model, and so doesn't have any of the kit that the MGS6 Trophy has. It'd be fairer to compare that against the MGS6 Long Range SE at £37,995, but even then the MGS6 is a bigger car.

Comparison of sizes:

MGS6 EV4,708mm1,912mm1,672mm2,835mm674L / 1,910L + 124L frunk
Renault Scenic4,470mm1,864mm1,571mm2,785mm545L / 1,670L (no frunk)
Citroen eC5 Aircross4,652mm1,902mm1,691mm2,780mm565L / 1,668L (no frunk)
Kia EV5 Air4,610mm1,875mm1,675mm2,750mm566L / 1,650L + 44L frunk

As you can hopefully see, the MGS6 is a much bigger car than the models you've suggested as competitors.

A closer comparison would be with the VW ID4 or Skoda Enyaq, but spec-for-spec, you've got to pay about £8500 more to get those to the same level as the MGS6 Trophy (Enyaq Sportline 85 would be around £49,440, and the ID4 Match Pro would be around £49,460, vs the MGS6 Trophy at £40,995)

Miles is right. Size, space and capabilities wise the MGS6 has to be compared against the likes of ID4, Enyag, Sealion7 and why not Model Y.

And to be fair the only drawback I can see is the charging speeds. (taking costs under consideration).
Model Y prices start at £45k and the AWD is £52k.

I do agree but was looking more at the price and having been in a scenic it feels far bigger inside than it should be.

Citroen is the big one, same size and hammers it on range and I got a look in the max standard range and the quality looked really good.
Qualifying for the full EV grant is a big selling point
