New 2026 MG4 EV and MG4 EV Urban

Like the interior refresh, think it looks great, a tad more upmarket. A cheaper version does make sense, folk are always after a bargain. And think it looks ok.
But think it's a mistake, calling them both MG4 when they look totally different. And will drive, differently. Can't understand that at all. 🤷‍♂️
What would you call it?

I think the problem here is we already have the MG3 and the MG5 name is associated with an estate car and MG6 a larger ICE vehicle, plus MG1 and 2 reserved for smaller vehicles.

Maybe "MG Urban"?

Are you referring to the hardware or software here? I am assuming you mean software updates? I don't know what infotainment version you have but I imagine the many updates have made it as good as it can be on that hardware.
I think it’s both hardware and software. If I press an icon when travelling at 65 mph I expect it to work first time. Sadly the alternative of using voice control is very flaky too.

They would have to come away from the numbers, name. Someone on another thread suggested MG Urban as opposed to MG4 Urban. That actually would be perfect, as it's mostly aimed at, Urban driving. 🙂👍

Ok, understood. Are you saying you expected MG to change the system for existing owners? I can't think of any maker that has ever done that, except perhaps Tesla's computer upgrades for FSD (which has never been finished).

MG Urban sounds better to me also, will be keen to see both of them in the flesh.
Got a feeling there might be other makers who have used this name, hence why they put the model number with it.

Just like MG MGS5 (yes that is the actual name) being ok but MG S5 not due to Audi.

Can I ask members generally?

- Are you excited about an interior refresh, do you think it will keep the car competitive, or is it too little?

- Does the prospect of a new cheaper version make sense to you, or do you find it confusing?

Thanks in advance for any responses. 😀
I really like the update interior. If I could afford it, I'd certainly look at the upgrade from my 22 Trophy

I like the look of the updated interior, but it’s a bit like meeting the prettier sister after getting married, looks great but too late for me 🤷‍♂️

By the time I’m replacing my MG4 there will be so many more and different cars around. I can see how it might be interesting for people on pcp/lease maybe.

I think the naming convention is a bit silly, it’s unnecessarily confusing. At the very least they could’ve gone with the MG Urban4 or something like that. Or maybe revive the Mulan, as I think the Mulan in China actually changed to MG4 after a while.

I don't know which to buy next now. My heart says old MG4 with updated interior but my head says MG4 Urban which is cheaper and has more boot space for SWMBO's mobility scooter.
I was thinking IM5 until these new 4s came out. 🤔

Seeing as:-

a) MG created the MGS5 just to confuse all the posters on here who have bad eyesight and get MG5 and MGS5 in a muddle and

b) Would like to more classy like an Audi...

Then I think they should call it the MGA4

Yes completely agree with you about the strange decision to call two different cars both MG4. Makes no sense.

Difficult to say as I have not actually seen either. But I still really like the current MG4 styling whereas the Urban looks quite ordinary.

In general, I think the interior update is better in the new MG4 EV, but there are still some aspects that I prefer with the outgoing model - floating centre console and black roof being two.

You never know, some models might have a black roof, and as far as I know, it still has a 'floating console' of sorts, there is storage space underneath it.
