New 2026 MG4 EV and MG4 EV Urban

We got our ex-demo MG4 two years ago.

There wasn't much choice at the time for what we wanted (electric hatchback, not crazy expensive). We were considering the e-208 but the MG4 was newer and larger for the same price.

I genuinely don't know what we would get if we were looking now. Would be a tough choice between the Urban with the bigger battery (LFP, bigger boot) or the refreshed MG4 but would consider Cupra Born or Kia EV3 as alternatives as well.

We have always just planned to keep this car for many years, though if Hyundai release something like their Concept Three I might start looking for second hand bargains a few years later.

Update after looking on the Hyundai website : "IONIQ 3 World Premiere in April 2026"

Leapmotor B10 is going to be big competition for everyone I think.

Tough time to be a car company!
The competition will hopefully improve everyone. That said, we know not all the brands will survive, especially the zillions of Chinese brands, so it remains to be seen who the winners and losers are.

I believe black roof still comes with XPower and ER versions of the MG4.

New single aero spoiler is considerably more efficient, adding 10 miles of range.
Might be a UK spec thing then (or an optional extra?), because the videos of the Brazilian facelift XPOWERs have body coloured roofs.

In the UK, the X-Power and Extended Range versions will have the black roof, as confirmed by MG UK's press release to us.

Like the interior refresh, think it looks great, a tad more upmarket. A cheaper version does make sense, folk are always after a bargain. And think it looks ok.
But think it's a mistake, calling them both MG4 when they look totally different. And will drive, differently. Can't understand that at all. 🤷‍♂️
MG4.5?

I'm not so sure. It's a small segment of people that will risk buying unheard of brands, with limited dealer network.
Leapmotor is a Stellantis co-venture so they have full dealership support.

It will help them a lot compared to other Chinese brands I expect.

Though on the other hand I'm seeing quite a few Jaecoos and Omodas around (Chery export brands).

IDK if there is a link to Honda, but they are display/ selling those two brands in our local Honda showroom.

I thought maybe it was because Chery built the ZR-V. That is built by Guangqi Honda, a partnership with Honda and GAC.

But GAC and Chery have formed alliances, so who knows?
