New MG4 EV Urban - Now on MG website.

shorter than the s5 but bigger boot, heat pump by default, it seems like the cabin is similar quality as the s5, smaller wheels than the s5, cheaper than the s5, the s5 seems to have some recurring issues and has not had software updates for months... I will happily consider this instead, don't mind losing the rear wheel drive and some power for more convenience and practicality, mg kind of shot themselves in the foot having this model in the pipeline and releasing the s5 without a sunroof and heat pump in the UK, both of which are available in other markets

Just noticed that a heat pump comes as standard.

That's a big boon over the similarly sized (and priced) Vauxhall Frontera. Owners are reporting pretty awful winter efficiency on that, probably because a) it doesn't have a heat pump and b) it's shaped like a Duplo car.

Fingers crossed for some keen lease deals on this one. I like what I see :)

The MG4 never had a heat pump in the UK, so I doubt one would now be included in the updated version. It is not impossible but I think it would get in the way of the price-lowering they have done.

We should remember that "having a heatpump" means relatively little. It isn't a magic guarantee of greater range in winter. It all depends on how the system has been designed, whether heat is scavenged from elsewhere in the car and how much the PTC heater is still needed to raise the interior temperature. Indeed a heatpump installation can give you a car that is frustratingly slow to warm up and not help range much at all.

Miles did a long bit on a recent podcast about why heatpumps in cars are not the answer to everyone's range prayers.

Unfortunately the general public have got the word "heatpump" so much in their heads that they are now asking about it at dealers, so it is probably getting to the point that all new cars will have one whether they make much difference in a car situation or not - and I refer people to Miles' explanations of why heatpumps in cars are not automatically a good thing or worth it, even if they can be great for homes and in other situations.

I don't have enough knowledge about if a heat pump is really worth it in a UK EV, but I think I would take it with a pinch of salt if a company that has decided they aren't going to fit them tells me they aren't needed.

As I recall, it wasn't a comment from MG, it was a personal comment from Miles sharing his experience as a former refrigeration engineer. You could make the same argument for all the companies that have decided to include them.

It looks a bit better than the original Mr Blobby MG4 they were to produce for the Chinese market but the current MG4 Essence 64/77 (Trophy in UK) looks much sharper and more stylish than this Urban though it did not appeal to the Chinese. Also the FWD drive puts me off though it does provide a decent under floor boot space for a space saver spare or anything else.

Wireless Carplay/ Android Auto is good though my dongle for my 4 only cost $6.50. Other wise very ordinary with nothing to write home about including the heat pump..

Are you referring to this one @tsedge (from 25mins). (y)
