Next Car?

Our MG5 pre-facelift SR has been, and still is, amazing! I prefer driving it to our other car a Lexus NX300h hybrid. I actually baulk at going to fill up with petrol - it is not a cost thing.

We decided to trade-in the NX for a pure EV. Top on my list was the MGS6. I did not test drive it but was very impressed with the interior. I would have liked the boot to have been a bit larger. The deal on the table was also good. My wife, she who knows much, suggested we look at other makes to get a fair comparison. I was very keen on the Skoda Enyaq but read about some issues it had and that dealer service was not good.
I test drove a used Lexus EV and was smitten. So we have bought one and are very pleased so far.

My main reason for NOT going for the MGS6 was that it was a new car and I would expect teething issues that would mean a 60 mile round trip to sort each time. My head ruled my heart, as I wanted the MGS6. I am totally confident with my Lexus (time will tell!) and feel, for me, it was the right choice.
The only downside is the RANGE - it does not compare with market leaders. I have just come back from a 400 mile round trip to Bristol. The charging was fine going down but coming back I did not have my phone (another long story) so could not use Zapmap. I chose the wrong charger at Membury services! I was only getting 20kW and it took 90 minutes to get me to the minimum to get home!
RANGE is not everything but SIZE matters! Yes, I will have to stop to charge for a trip down to Bristol where my son lives. It is no big deal for me but I can see someone who travels distances more than twice a week, it could be a real pain.

The safety tech and gubbins has moved on a great deal from my NX.
So my main reason for not going for another MG was purely a concern over reliability.

As a counterpoint ... a mate recently (i.e. last October ish) bought an Enyaq (82kWh version) as his first ever EV .. he was a committed petrolhead but business-wise an EV made far more sense .. and he loves it. He hasn't reported any issues with it.

No idea which year but there was an issue with a cable rubbing and shorting due to poor design. It really put me off. Worth going onto the Enyaq EV owners website and reading the issues owners have had.
Sadly, I think it would make a great EV but I was put off. There were posts about poor customer service from dealers - which was a surprise.

As all forums, you get a lot of negatives.

I'm guessing that would have been remedied now.

Will do, thanks.

Yes, to me too. I had an Octavia Rudolph bought new in 2002 which had persistent issues with a faulty alternator, battery and headlamp. I was surprised there were so many quality issues, but as ever, things can go wrong with cars and you judge the manufacturers/ dealers on how they deal with the problems.
Cheers!

Not this one. 😜
Sucks up to the owner and mods...

Bet any one make car forum. Will report faults on their cars. As we know, there's more posts about faults, than there is about praises, it's the nature of forums.
Make ya own mind up, and just get what you want, you'll almost certainly be fine.
