Yep. It is in the setting of the A/C window. It will heat up for about 15 minutes.

from recollection there is a setting (maybe?), as to whether the rear engages on pressing the front defrost?

That being the case convinces me that MG could add this as an option in the app.

Strange thing is, if you leave the window demisters (and HVAC) active when you power down the car, if you activate HVAC via that app they don't come back on, though when you power up the car they do come back on

That isn't strange. The app directly activates a single device/service. The car on the other hand links to a setting in the software that combines two devices/services.
It would mean that in that case the app should also have the option to disconnect the combined services in case you do not need to use both. This complicates the app. There is a reason why a mobile app is not a replica of the entire car system.
