remote

In electronics, a remote control (also known as a remote or clicker) is an electronic device used to operate another device from a distance, usually wirelessly. In consumer electronics, a remote control can be used to operate devices such as a television set, DVD player or other home appliance. A remote control can allow operation of devices that are out of convenient reach for direct operation of controls. They function best when used from a short distance. This is primarily a convenience feature for the user. In some cases, remote controls allow a person to operate a device that they otherwise would not be able to reach, as when a garage door opener is triggered from outside.

Early television remote controls (1956–1977) used ultrasonic tones. Present-day remote controls are commonly consumer infrared devices which send digitally-coded pulses of infrared radiation. They control functions such as power, volume, channels, playback, track change, heat, fan speed, and various other features. Remote controls for these devices are usually small wireless handheld objects with an array of buttons. They are used to adjust various settings such as television channel, track number, and volume. The remote control code, and thus the required remote control device, is usually specific to a product line. However, there are universal remotes, which emulate the remote control made for most major brand devices.
Remote controls in the 2000s include Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity, motion sensor-enabled capabilities and voice control. Remote controls for 2010s onward Smart TVs may feature a standalone keyboard on the rear side to facilitate typing, and be usable as a pointing device.

    Questions that need answering, please!

Thought I’d start a thread for anyone who’s ordered, or indeed is thinking of ordering, to ask some questions that some of the more experienced MGers or those just more in the know might be able to answer and help out those of us less in the know. I know you can now spec / order the car but the...

iSmart app.....Do I REALLY need it?

Ok, so there are multiple threads on how poor the iSmart app is and my experience is the same as many users on here. For the first 12 months of owning the car, I couldn't set a charge level (80%, 100% etc), remote heating never worked, most time when just checking the battery level I would need...

    Remote heating

My trophy is plugged into zappi, not charging. Remotely turned on heater and charging restarts. I guess this is to replace energy used by 10 mins of power when possible.

Hi everyone, On the MG ismart app I have no option to specifically defrost the front and rear windscreen remotely, only set the temperature of the entire cabin, for my MG4 trophy LR 2023. My friend has the MG ZS 2022 and his app (same version) has a button to specifically defrost the front...

Remote De-misting and the updated MG app

Hi everyone During the really cold spell we had in NE Scotland recently I used the MG app to remotely switch on the windscreen demister 5 minutes before my Wife finished her nightshift, so that the car was nice and toasty for her and the windscreen was clear too! HOWEVER, since they updated...

Lazy Lock - Remote open/close all windows. Can it be disabled?

Lazy Clock (long press on key fob opens / closes all four windows together) caught me out again today when my key fob got pressed whilst in my pocket. Has anyone succeeded in disabling the feature on an MG5 SR non-facelift? Can't find anything about it in the manual so I assume it isn't possible.

Heated Seats bug altered - not improved!

My wife asked me to preheat the driver's seat from the app yesterday (the cold weather has reached London) but it didn't come on, despite the app saying it was on. Interesting - time to investigate. As I recall, the original bug with this function was that if you set the driver's seat to come...

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere (I promise I did try and search) - Got my lease Xpower yesterday and following initial drive stopped at a supermarket. Car Dead when using remote heating

So the fudgewits at MG Barnsley updated the software on my MG4 SR despite me and the service manager clearing putting “do not update software” on the work pack. This has turned on LKA every time which is actually dangerous in my option and completely unusable. Another issue is now when I use...
