So I’ve picked up my car and I’m getting the message ‘unavailable, low charge power’ when trying to switch on OPB, has it been established that this is due to the high % of battery charge ( currently at 90 ) or am I taking the car back to the dealership?

Normal behaviour. The battery % at which OPD is available varies with battery temperature.

Quite normal. Mine kicked in at about 88% the other day. It's not a big deal IMO as level 3 usually works straight away and I'll use that until next journey. I only use OPD in town anyway personally.

Speed of deceleration is determined by the regen setting in MG Pilot, Low Medium or Hard.
Front Collision Alert/AEB is irrelevant if there's nothing in front of you.

On ours, when you select OPD the regen setting shows "S" rather than 1,2 or 3. Anyone know what the "S" stands for?

That must be MG's designation for OPD? ?‍

The only other indication is A for Adaptive.

I asked this question somewhere as well & one response was it means the vehicle will "S"top when in OPD which it does. In 1,2,3 or A it will not come to a complete stop.

Could I ask, is the only difference between the cars without OPD (like mine) and those which have it that the car comes to a complete stop rather than creeping? Or does it actually drive differently?

Interesting question ... I imagine that OPD simply uses regen 3 and then applies the brakes to come to a stop. i.e. does as standard what the car does anyway when ACC/TJA is engaged and the vehicle in front stops, but without the vehicle in front being required.

IMHO the OPD setting should be added to the Regen settings, so that you could easily cycle through them (using a Star button) to reach OPD rather than having to dig through the menus. (That's for cars which support OPD ... I can't see MG adding it to our Phase 1 cars, not that I'm bothered).

Basically yes, It's like a having a regen level 4 (strong) setting. You need to ease the pressure more gently on your right foot to slow down, and then ease it right off to come to a complete stop. Around town it is very smooth once you get used to it.

OPD definitely feels like it gives the most regen to me. After 3 years in a tesla (which by default only has OPD as this is the most efficient method of driving an EV), it is our 'go to' mode and should be the most efficient in theory as nearly all 'braking' will be putting energy back into the battery. Shame we have to enable it each time (even setting it to on in the custom driving mode doesn't always work)

I see 25% with OPD too compared to 21% without.

It feels like coming to a halt is done with a little reverse force on the motor but I'm not sure. This would be consistent with the unexpected reversing some people have had when stopping on a slope downhill.

I have had that once, but it was on the flat and I automatically braked within 6 inches so don't consider it a problem (I like OPD as is and hope they don't adjust it in any way).

I have seen -25% in regen 3 (on my non-OPD model), especially when the brake pedal is slightly pressed. Seems to me that OPD is "pressing the pedal" (for want of an expression) to achieve the higher regen. ?‍

Interesting ... I see -25% instantly when lifting off abruptly in OPD but no braking (when something unexpected happens). It slows down so quickly when lifted off totally you rarely need to use the brake at all except in an emergency. It makes you wonder what your brake lights are doing !!

Brakes lights come on anyway with sufficient regen. If retardation rate exceeds a certain value then they must come on by law.

I get -25% in regen 3 without OPD as well. Same for adaptive, though much less often. The only thing I experienced was a difference between ACC+REGEN 3 only and when combined with OPD: in slow moving traffic (e.g. on highways) the speed increase/decrease without OPD feels more abrupt. But I use custom drive mode with eco 99% of the time.

I would say much stronger, especially at higher speeds
