Open Tesla Supercharge Issues

I’ve got the Tesla app in anticipation of having a Tesla Powerwall fitted. I think I need to try it on a supercharger to see if my ZS will charge!

So - update 1 - went to my local dealer today to start the conversation - the MG Service Specialist didn't know anything about the updates, couldn't even tell me what the latest MPU/MCU versions were! ... they suggested I spoke to MG UK Customer Services about it and they (MGUK) would tell the dealer what to do ... rang the given 0121 number and the CS person there said they didn't know anything but they were just a 3rd party contractor that answered the phones for MG - they suggested I email CS as that actually went to MG UK and should be picked up there ! ... So a "I'm disappointed to have to email you because my/your MG dealer doesn't know the answer .." email duly sent and awaiting the initial response :-(

Honestly I would avoid trusting a dealer with this little knowledge, to carry out the updates required to almost every module on the car to provide the use of the non Tesla chargers !.
Although this is a very disappointing response, it's not the first time this type of thing has happened unfortunately.
The level of knowledge between different dealers is massive.

I tried to charge my MG ZS EV at Flint Mountain Tesla Hub. Tried three different charge points but my car would not connect!!

Luckily there was a InstaVolt nearby at a McDonalds which I could use instead.

When I get back home I will be calling my local MG to ask why my car is not accepting the Tesla charger.
Do you think it’s a software update required? Anyone had this issue?

Or should I be reporting this to Tesla ? If that’s even possible I don’t know.

Possibly.

I've used another in France today and it was completely seamless and problem free.

Total of 5 - 3 in the UK and 2 in France are fine.

Is there any way of telling if my zsev LR bought June 23 has the latest software update without going to the dealers ?

Both of these units are fairly close to our location and therefore we have never used them.
The Flint mountain units are behind the hotel.
I think it has been mentioned before in another thread, that Tesla have said that the problem is with the software in the car and not their unit.
Some owners have used the non Tesla units and been successful and yet other cars fail to communicate with the charger ?.
One forum member with a ZS EV facelift, has had a software update carried out that will now permit connection to the non Tesla units.
It involves a dealer updating a number of modules in the car and needs to be done in set sequence.
This update was carried out by the lads at the Chorley group in Burley and Miles was in attendance when it was performed I believe.

Only sat-nav and head unit software versions are displayed on the infotainment screen. All the others need plugging into the diagnostic computer at the dealership.

I haven't seen confirmation myself, but I believe that you can read out the present firmware versions using the unofficial Thai app, available from the link below or from the Google Play Store (no iPhone unofficial app unfortunately). As well as an Android phone, you also need a decent (not the very cheapest, but the most expensive is not required) OBD2 dongle.

For whatever reason, Mark 2 owners seem not to be as keen to poke into their cars' innards as Mark 1 owners. So you'd have to wait for someone with known good firmware to post their firmware versions.

i had all the standard updates done at the first service of my TCLR a few weeks ago. I also had the Tesla update carried out for use with open chargers- MG UK charged my dealer a £120 fee that was passed onto me for this patch. All working well and an integral part of my planned trip to France shortly. Could not argue about cost as needed the facility without any grey areas of the car not being compatible with Tesla.

Maybe, but it's MG that are providing a car with broken functionality. They should be fixing it under warranty.

Not sure that an additional feature available after manufacture, such as being able to use the Tesla open-charger network, counts as 'broken functionality' ... my understanding is that Tesla is in effect 'licensing' the use of their open chargers to vehicle manufacturers and some of that cost is being passed on to owners that 'don't have but want' that functionality outside of the normal service cycle - it would be interesting when owners get to the service cycle whether that functionality is included as part of the 'normal' service pack system updates or not ? ... personally I'd like to use that functionality now rather than in 8 months time so will pay - if and when I can find a dealer locally that knows enough about how to do it ! ... a 400+ mile round trip to Burnley just to have it done isn't really feasible for me :)

Good day for it today as well - not sure what the occasion is though that warrants it ! ...is genuine and available in UK today too :)

We all at some time or another have complain about the lack of EV chargers in the UK and how we need numerous App's and payment methods to even stand a small chance of receiving a charge.
Even then we keep our fingers tightly crossed with regards to the reliability and easy to use as the super chargers have.
Today, at the simple flick of a switch nearly ALL units across the UK & Europe are suddenly open access to all EV's and they are on free vend to boot.
It really is that easy, can you believe it folks !.
IF Tesla completely opened up their units, then the other providers would need to ship up, or ship out.
Proof of concept of full access to all EV's has been clearly displayed today, for the people who said it was never technically possible to achieve.
It has taken 10 years and was short and sweet, but thank you Tesla from all other EV owners (y) !.

I think you misread the announcement.

"This includes locations open to all EV's".

They haven't opened any more chargers to all EV's, they've just made the existing ones free to use for today.

And just to re-confirm the 70% that are 'open' across Europe are predominantly in mainland Europe and not the UK as we know from a couple of user's posts ... I'd guess less than half of the UK Supercharger network is currently 'open' to all ...

It don’t matter how many switches are flicked or how many superchargers are open, if your vehicle is not compatible it still won’t charge.
This is the fault of the vehicle manufacturer cars or any electric vehicle should have no issues using any charger that is available this situation is playing in Elon Musk plan of total superiority in the EV world, and in this case MG, SAIC, need to sit up and take note.

Dave’s first again well done dave and Thank you and hopefully what he says 6:11 in to the video might also sort out the problems with MGs not being able to use them.

Not sure it will. I’m guessing there’s some sort of specific handshake bug on the MG side that ZS/5 owners need patching. Adding contactless payment interfaces I think will add another element of complexity, and although longer cables are nice, they are just longer cables.

I seem to have this and have zero issues with Tesla chargers. On this France trip I’m on they are basically the most reliable network for me.

WHAT I cannot believe that MG are charging customers, to allow their cars to use Tesla charging points what ever next. This is not on in my book.

My MG5 worked perfectly on the Tesla Banbury site for the first 4 months. Then stopped. Tesla must have changed something because their support people MG were barred due to missing protocols in their cars.
Seeing that on second service my nearest dealer tried to charge me for oil change, oil filters, and fuel filters plus the disposal of the old ones I won't bother them for any updates.
When I asked for a battery health check while it was plugged in for 2nd service they said that would be an extra £65.
