OVO Have Kicked Me Off Anytime

It was only the second time I read Archev's post that I realised that OVO had sold him the charger, only a few weeks ago. That is diabolical. Surely they knew at that stage that they were going to discontinue support for the thing!

Aye it was installed by an OVO engineer on 31st of March this year. OVO gave me a choice and suggested that the OHME tethered unit would be the best unit overall for my requirements.
On the 12th of March I paid them £1099.99 to have it supplied and installed in place of the Romec unit which had worked fine and was still then OK.
So now neither the OHME unit nor my Citroen are suitable for them to continue selling me the charge anytime tariff I asked the girl when I phoned today what they could do for me and all she could recommend was to seek another supplier for my power.
OHME emailed to say they can give me something like a similar thing but with another supplier. I’ve yet to study that in more detail.
I’ve a few phone calls and emails to do tomorrow.

Unbelievable!

If you paid by credit card, I would invoke Section 75.

If you used your debit card, I would call the bank and request a chargeback.

My Mother in Law just got her first EV (Mokka-E). She isn't usually an early tech adopter so it shows EVs are going mainstream.

Anyway, she's with OVO so is going to get them to install an EVSE for her.

Are they definitely going to continue to support the one she gets installed?

I think a lot of people are going to be moving to Octopus - don't forget to use a referral code!

I’m sure it was the debit. Thanks that’ll be one of my calls.

when I phoned and moaned yesterday the girl said it was only the OHME that was a problem Out of the four or five units they deal with. But hey if they can dump the OHME two months after they recommended, sold and installed onee for me then what do you believe ?

I think they are now only offering the choice of Hypervolt and Indra so it sounds like they have dropped lots of chargers from their install list, if you had a wider choice than that.

Aye they told me originally about five I think. I was keen on the Hypervolt but went for the OHME sadly.

I bought a fridge from a well known high street retailer which went wrong repeatedly.

They came out 4 times to repair it. I got sick of it as it was obviously a design fault. In the end, they refused to keep repairing it, so the next time it went faulty, I rang them up and argued for a refund under the CRA, 2015.
Eventually, they agreed to refund 95% of the purchase price and we had the thing fixed by our own appliance engineer.

Now I know things are different in your case, because it is not the product that is faulty as such, but the service, however, I believe the CRA will serve you in exactly the same way.

This is a story that Which? would love to sink their teeth into!

would think he should be able to get his money back under the Consumer Rights Act as he was sold a product which is not fit for purpose.
One would like to think so, but I suspect that as the Ohme EVSE still acts as a working 'EV supply equipment' you may have an uphill battle.

According to the OVO forums it is about 12,500 customers affected - i.e. those that have Ohme on the CA tariff and don't have a car that is compatible (i.e. supported via Enode's system).

This would have been less of a concern if OVO had given customers (say) 12 month's notice of ending support - whereas they have been selling and installing Ohme EVSE's until about last week and only given 6 week's notice of ending the arrangement.

All they (OVO) have said is that you can be moved to a regular tariff without exit fees (to enable you to change supplier) and that "If you don’t have a compatible vehicle, ... , you’ll no longer get a discounted charging rate. We’re really sorry about this." So that's OK then... they're sorry for something they've actively done :( (where is the face-palm emoji?)

There is one, but it's virtually unrecognisable:
🤦‍♂️

Perhaps the GIF option is better:

(y) Interestingly, another forum that I'm active on that also uses Xenforo, has a couple of them - this being the clearest...

In that case then he could claim the product is not as advertised, e.g, not able to make use of OVO's special tariff he was promised.

Sure, worth a try, especially if the deal was clearly advertised as being linked products - e.g. buy this EVSE to use our CA tariff.

But at the end of the day, the users will have agreed to the CA tariff's T&C's which include.. "9.1 We reserve the right to make changes to Charge Anytime and these Terms at any time including without limitation amending the product, changing the Charge Anytime Credit or Charge Anytime Rate." So, still an uphill battle I'd say from a legal point of view - the best outcome would be for OVO to cave-in and offer their 12,500 affected users an EVSE swap. But that would be ££££ for them.

Thanks - too late OVO - I’ve gone !
The lassie at octopus told me they’re getting loads of OVO customers with the same questions.
