If we could avoid this journey we would but one of our dogs has to go a specialist vet tomorrow for surgery on her broken leg.

We need to keep the car cool for the dogs so we'll be travelling outside of the peak heat time but we would like to fast charge halfway.

Is it possible to fast charge the ZS EV whilst sitting in it and running the air conditioning?

Regards

Ryan

Thanks all. I tried a home AC / PodPoint solo charger and it worked. The manual hints that it should be fine too. We have negotiated a granny cable access point at our destination so it may be fine, just a failover.

No issues with Rapid Charging and using the HVAC.

Turn the car off.

Plug in the Charging Cable and start the charge as normal.

Get back into the car.

Put your foot on the brake and press the start button.

The car will let you know it is plugged in and cannot move. Press OK to accept.

You can now run all the normal functions of the car, but won’t be able to drive it.

If you look at the 12V battery level it should be above 13V, indicating that the HV battery is charging the 12V battery. If the battery is not above 13V then it is not being charged by the HV battery and will quickly lose power if you run the HVAC system making it difficult, if not impossible, to restart the car.

To stop charging, turn the car off.

Without your foot on the brake press the start button twice. Turn off charging from the main screen.

The last bit is the way I stop charging. Others do it from the Rapid Charger.

Yes, running HVAC while DC rapid charging is possible. Need to start the charge with the car off, then turn the car fully on, i.e. into drive mode. If you dont do this you will flatten the 12 volt battery as you need the contactors on the HV battery pulled in so you draw your HVAC current from it.

I do this all the time in the Queensland Aussie summer....although you guys are also getting some of that now. I included this info in one of my EV Videos on my YouTube channel (Electric Car Australia) but I cant remember which one. Check them out and subscribe if you like the content, it really helps me get the EV word out :). Enjoy and hope the puppy went ok.
