You're not going to believe this GomezFriday started with a trip to the Falkirk Wheel and a little boat trip. Really enjoyed that and it complemented my trip on the Anderton boat lift a few years ago ( Anderton Boat Lift & Visitor Centre )
Both are great pieces of engineering.
After that had a pleasant pootle back home to Leeds.
A total of 492 miles, 73kWh added in public charging and approx 50kWh to add back at home to bring back to 100% starting amount. Total cost £44 giving 4 miles/kWh and 8p/mile overall.

Great picturesYou're not going to believe this Gomez. We too were there on Friday 5th. It was you mentioning in an earlier post that you were going to the Kelpies on Wednesday that gave us the idea to go up, so we decided on Friday, bought the tickets online for the 1.10pm trip. My long suffering better half had never seen it and I'd been before 10 years ago.
We ended up at the North car park, which was free but entailed a bit of leg stretching to get to the Wheel and it was wet. I didn't recognise it and so reset the sat nav and found the Lime Road entrance, was confronted with a 'road closed' sign...and it wasn't, circumnavigated it and came up against a row of cones with a 'road closed' sign facing the other way, so definitely not closed. We arrived about 12.30pm, followed the road in and I recognised where I was, so reg plate photoed and parked up in bay 3.
We decided to have a look round and lunch after the trip. It was very busy in the cafe when we arrived and a bus load of 'tourists' had just landed after us. View attachment 39648View attachment 39649View attachment 39650View attachment 39651View attachment 39651View attachment 39652
We were at the head of the queue and were able to sit up front in ringside seats and were awarded with some spectacular views. We spoke to a couple in front of us who had been to Singapore, were from Glasgow...and never been to the Falkirk Wheel.
We went to the cafe only to find they had run out of Baked Potatoes, bloody tourists
, so we settled for a toastie each and watched the 'Wheel' go round.
It was a good day out, Kelpies next time.
It sounds like you had a great time. We were on the Archimedes boat 10:40 trip. The captain, a young lady, was very entertaining with her briefing and after trip talk. You're not going to believe this Gomez. We too were there on Friday 5th. We were following the satnav to the car park and encountered the road closed too. We drove past and good old google re-routed us to the next turning and we were in convoy with everyone else and came out the 'right' side of the barrier at the other end.We managed to get in the closest car park to the Wheel, number 1.
I had looked for chargers online and spotted that there were a couple of CPS 7kW posts in the first car park on the left but comments had them all out of service for ages. As we passed on our way in we noticed a van plugged in at one and pulled in and saw they were at a PodPoint post, the other was a CPS. I considered it, I love destination charging but didn't have sufficient credit in my podpoint app and didn't want to top up, so gave it a miss. In the end grateful as it was raining as we headed back to the car.
We went to Larkhall Tesla to top up en-route to get enough to get home. We had used 69% to get there on the way up in horrendous rain so the plan was to top up to 80% for the return and so no more charging required. We were going to stop at Tebay South on the way but have heard how busy that gets. However best we got was a measly 27kW charging so gave up after 15 minutes and decided to risk Tebay charging.
Got to Tebay at 2:30 with 18% and it was rammed, fortunately only had to wait 5 minutes...they need far more chargers than the 4 double they currently have. Most of the Tesla were unoccupied. Was charged to as much as I wanted (42%) before we'd even ordered coffee and had to return and move it and ended up with 45%.
Had coffee and took the A65 back to Leeds and got home with 24%.
I do, thanks. We stopped northbound on our way up and sampled the fare but didn't need to charge as we were still at 74%. We wanted to check out the amenities at the southbound so didn't want to mess about with crossing the M'Way and we weren't in a hurry. You know there are another six double chargers (and a single one I think) at Tebay on the northbound side, just a couple of minutes drive away?
Oh come on, that could be anything hidden behind a tree
