Just to double-check but the pre facelift MG5 didn't ever come with locking wheel nuts as standard, did it?

I don't recall ever seeing a locking wheel nut key/thing, and I got the car as a pre-reg a couple of years back, so I presume unless the dealer added them it won't have them.

Otherwise I may have a problem when the tyre fitters arrive next week.

Mine came without locking wheel nuts which I was very grateful for. They only stop honest people taking your wheels off, usually with a large bill to follow.

I presume they have plastic covers over them, either as part of the hubcap or separate?
Yes, if they are alloy wheels, you should have one of these somewhere to remove the plastic covers. wheel nut tool.webp

Good, hopefully getting some cross climates put on tomorrow

Front tyres are at the wear bar (opps) rears have plenty of tread but some cracking is starting to happen around the edges so decided to eat the cost and get a fully matched set on

It's at about 19k miles and is a 22 plate

Old tyres would be the factory fit originals as far as I know

Sigh, apparently the job didn't get booked in because I'd selected the bank holiday Monday (I hadn't as it wasn't even an option).

It's only because I called them after never getting an update with a more precise time slot (which apparently it's supposed to send out the morning of the appointment) that someone noticed that it had thrown an exception booking the slot and not actually done it.

Should now be getting done Thursday, but what that also tells me is someones booking system is pretty crap as it will happily put a date on the customer facing order confirmation without getting confirmation from the backend system that the booking was accepted. Also if something does go wrong it seems to just end up in limbo.

To avoid replacing the tyres prematurely due to side wall cracking, try rotating the wheels 🛞 in a front to back fashion, once a year ?.
VAG recommends rotation every 5,000 miles.

Well they were sodding useless and have again failed to come out so looks like I now need to go elsewhere (and possibly get different tyres due to availability)

Edit:

Looks like i'm getting some bridgestones now, hopefully those will be ok.

What time were you expecting them @dragon2611, it's still early, and they may just be delayed ?
I called them this morning to check the appointment was going ahead and they said due to stock availability.etc they won't be available before Tuesday so that's completely useless to me.

I originally booked for Tuesday this week and then when it got towards the end of the slot called them to chase and was told that it had tried to book it for Bank holiday Monday (My confirmation email clearly said Tuesday), they then offered today which they now can't meet.

Looks like I'm going to a halfords autocentre tomorrow now (Not my first choice but they had availability and could get something in by then)
