Spoiler: seems to be in very good condition after a lot of miles!

Probably mileage, but bear in mind that a high miler may be DC charges a lot more. I suppose I'm saying it is multifactorial with a bit of luck thrown in.

Depends. The battery will degrade by itself without any miles at all, especially when left at a high state of charge for a long time. See this study: [2103.02166] Electrochemical Modeling of Calendar Capacity Loss of Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC)-Graphite Lithium Ion Batteries

It will also degrade faster with rapid charging and charging to a high state of charge often, something I imagine these guys do to be able to get to their jobs in good time, so it does bode well.

Generally speaking: mileage, i.e. number of charge/discharge cycles.

If you compare two 1st gen EVs built in 2012 for example, the one with the lower mileage will have a better SoH

I'm not so sure about that. Coming from the LEAF community, they're all over the place. Some really high mileage cars are still doing very well, whilst some low mileage cars have totally shot batteries. It seems to have just as much to do with environment and charging habits/management behaviour as it does number of cycles/time. At least with earlier cars such as the LEAF.

Depends how you charge. e.g. a lot of rapid DC charging will degrade the battery more than a lot of AC charging. Probably how you drive also affects it too.

From what I can see, James's car is treated like crap, used & abused just like any work van, and no doubt has been rapid charged extensively. It's not serviced in accordance with MG's schedule at all either (which is admittedly mainly just bollocks anyway to extort revenue on pain of warranty exclusion!)

All that for over 150k in just 3 years!, It really does bode extremely well for reliability. I do think time will show more corrosion issues than we're used to seeing these days on modern cars though. This is the first car of the modern era (To me that's post about 1985!) that just has paint on the sills and nothing else! Look around, every other car you see (when not covered in cladding) has plasticised sealant sprayed along the sills prior to painting to resist road debris chipping. The short rot though warranty at 7 years is a clue as well (normal today is 10/12 years)

So get those mud flaps fitted, they're a must on the 5!, wash the underside properly frequently and keep an eye on things. (Unless your renting one for 2/3 years at a time, then, who cares anyway!!)

IIRC the LEAF never had any thermal HV battery management therefore factors like you mentioned have a big impact on SoH.

I’d still guess though, that out two LEAFs of the same vintage, in the same environment and with similar ‘usage/charging profile’ the one with (significantly) lower mileage comes out top.

All other factors being the same, yes, it would.

Funny. We met the hallowed MG EV at the Sep Blenhiem Palace EV event, it was its longevity and reliability that led to us buying one the next month. I must admit it had been thoroughly abused

MG decided to clear its inventory so we got a bargain.

I've had my 2021 MG5 30,000 mile EV serviced previously by main dealers but this year was was the first time I was able to talk to a mobile service expert about our car and to be there to learn what work was done. I asked Cleevely EV to do the 4th year service including stripping the brakes at our home in Glasgow.

I particularly liked the care that Craig took to remove wheels, remove disc brakes, clean and inspect all components - there's been no wear to the pads or discs although the grooves in the rear pads were clogged. These were cleaned. All suspension joints, bushes and wheel bearings were checked. Brake fluid was checked with an instrument and it did not need replacing.

Ours is a very basic MG EV, but I'm super pleased with Craig's work and I'm happy I chose Cleevely EV having watched the James & Kate videos on YouTube.

Under EU block exemption rules, you don't need to use dealer networks, provided the correct parts and schedule is followed. MG's Service T&C's state

To qualify for the MG 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th year warranty, the vehicle must have a full and accurate service history, in line with MG Motor UK’s recommended servicing plan, using genuine parts and fluids to the correct specifications

No. MG Motors in Birmingham first said that they would not pay for the service (probaby because they didn't understand "do I lose my warranty?") but later said they would not upload details about the work done and the 7 years warranty is still valid. I wanted the service history added to the MG database.
It's not right that only dealers can access the database; not the owner.
I'm booked in to have the infotainment system replaced and to have any software updates done at our local Arnold Clark.
No parts or fluids were required.

Cleevely getting rid of their mg5's and moving to something with less range and more room, I'm guessing vans.
