Hi, has anyone replaced a EV charger? I had a pod point installed a few years ago by pod point, so all the electrics is ready and in place. There is nothing wrong with the pod point but I was wondering if I wanted to change the charger is it much cheaper now as everything is already in place and it's just the charger needing changing? Has anyone done it? Was it much cheaper? The ohme home pro through octopus is £999 with instalation but the equipment itself is just £533

As Alb said, don't buy a big package which assumes a lot of electrical work will be involved.
Contact a few local electricians to ask if they would install a charger of your choice.
It sounds like it isn't a distress purchase so you can take your time and wait for the cheaper option to be available.

You will probably need some extra load monitoring to meet new regs
Yep, regulations have changed over the last few years, so it is very likely the old installation is not compliant with the latest ones - which may mean making changes including in your consumer unit.

Now, you may say, does it really matter and can I just replace the unit and not change anything else to save money? I couldn't possibly comment.

I did think about it earlier this year when the first wall charger failed.

Wiring up seemed simple, until,I realised that there was an extra sensor wire going back from the wall charger to the house unit.

Not being qualified, and I do like to have someone to blame, I used a professional to instal the new system................

If you have any doubts or have to ask, always use a professional.

I am on my third EV charger.

On each occasion new regs made the installation more expensive, a lot more expensive.

Your current setup most likely will need a lot of additional electrical works to meet the new regs.

Extra earthing, grid supply switch / fuse upgrade, metal switch box with surge protection, and maybe more.
