Running a 12V fridge from MG4 LV Battery

5 day update, it works well, it is plugged in 220V at the camping and to 12V in the car and so far just works.

So all the math and backup batteries are not needed for my case.

Thanks though for the various experiences shared, i might need them on an alternate situation if i gun it with no stops for 2000km again.

I have a cool box with a small built-in refrigeration unit which plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. I keep it running all the time when the car is on, including overnight while I'm sleeping, and it's fine. I think it draws 50 watts.

I recently bought a Bouge RV, CRPRO 20 fridge and battery combination. The battery fits into the top right of the fridge (It is a compressor fridge, so will run in the range -20 to +10 degrees) and is therefore self powered. The battery will accept through powering too. So the fridge can be taken out of the car and remain running, while in the car can be connected to the accessory socket to keep the battery charged. On a two and a half hour trip only 4% was used from the battery consuming around 35 W when the compressor runs. The battery will accept a variety of inputs via its 7909 connector, so will accept solar panels too. The battery is rated at 177 Wh. Worth looking into if you need a decent sized (20L) self powered unit.

Compressor fridges are way more efficient than either the peltier or evaporation fridges. That looks a really nice unit but I bet it carries quite a price tag. Very nice.

We use a small Companion 50 litre compressor fridge to bring our shopping home.
We live an hour out of town, and in summer it is great to have a fridge in the car to keep the food cold.
We have a 50 amp hour AGM battery that runs our fridge, it fits in the well next to the boot section of the car and we have it connected to the fridge with an anderson plug.
We usually only need the fridge to run for 4 hours max and the system works fine for that. The battery still has plenty of charge left when we get home. At home I take the battery out and plug it into a 50 watt solar panel with a regulator to charge it up.
