Hello. The infotainment screen on my MG4 freezes after a short time of use and also goes black, unable to reset the screen with the home button. It started happening with the heat, especially when connecting the Android phone via cable.
Has anyone experienced something similar?

Given the temperatures in Spain currently, could it be that the car interior has got too hot and the LCD screen has gone black as a result. Does it come back once the interior has cooled? Had a similar problem in Italy with a SatNav after leaving it on the dash by mistake.

A satnav will disable its power system when the battery exceeds a certain temperature. The screen in a car doesn't have a battery as pat of its unit construction, so temperature won't be the issue with the screen in the car.

The OP said it happened when connecting his Android phone so it could be the phone's battery cutting the power.

I recently had a "update android auto " message come up on the phone, this I duly did. Since then ,now when connecting ,again via cable, its a lot slower to boot up commencing with a black screen then having the android auto logo appear for a few seconds before working . Previously it went straight to working without the start up introduction . Perhaps your version cannot get past the first stage. So I'm thinking more phone problem than car?

Hello.
I've found the problem. I installed a rearview camera, and when I mentioned it to the dealer, he told me that I had to connect two cables, which weren't necessary at first. As a result, it's now working properly.

I get occasional black screen with CarPlay.... I think it is an MG software problem. Reconnecting usually fixes it.
I get the same thing sometimes. I am sure it is an MG info issue.

A quick fix is activate the reversing camera by putting it in to reverse and back to drive. LOL Obviously not while driving before someone points this out :)

Other two: reboot info system or unplug carplay as suggested.

@elenc I have exactly the same setup (installed a rear view camera) went for updates on July 1, Problem begins on July4, Freezes with no icon responding, or total black screen. Still possible to play music with steering wheel buttons but screen black. Screen reset doesn't not work.

I believe I installed the same AliExpress MG rear camera module as you, what additional wire did you need to connect? Meine was fine until I took the at official first maintenance.

If you have photos of cable labels it will be great too.

@elenc Is this the same rearview camera you installed? What two previously unnecessary cables did you have to connect to resolve the problem? Thanks in advance.

Update: I reported this to the dealer and they have sent an appointment to have a look at the last software update. In my opinion this triggered the behavior.

I have had to drive a complete week without the Infotainment screen. Disconnecting and reconnecting the 12V battery doesn't yield a result.

On 20th July, MG released a new iSmart update with refresh UI. Since that update, the Infotainment screen lit on it's own the first time I got in the car and ran the diagnostics from the iSmart app. Stayed on even through parking the car and moving until, I used the reverse, then it went black again. I noticed the iSmart would run the diagnostics (freezes), not sure their is a relationship. Anyway, this continued for the rest of the day

This morning 21st July, the screen lights up normally with the boot process.

Since the iSmart App update, the screen has randomly lit up more time than before the iSmart App update. Nothing else was done to result in the change.

Although my MCU version is R38. I believe there may be several R38.xx. I am hoping the dealer rolls back the Infotainment software to the earlier R38.

@elenc was this your experience?
