Hi, Just wondering about whether service plans are worth having or just getting car serviced every year, my last car was a Kia sportage mhev and when serviced I often wondered if they had done anything other than change the oil & filter as well as this so called 24 point check which just means they will look for things to replace that don't need replacing.
I wondered whether to just use a local garage and not bother with main dealers.
So was wondering what others think and what you do with yours

If you have an mg car thats under 7 years old pretty much tied to them im afraid becouse of "warrenty" also they seem to be the only ones that can do updates mg very secretive about anything on their cars..i have a 3 year service plan with first mot and £500 towards any work on mine..also the all brakes warrenty..

Hi, I bought my car new from stoneacre and their nearest mg dealer for me is doncaster, although I could use all their other dealerships it kind of defeats the object as they wont be able to do updates and warranty work etc.
there is an Evans Halshaw in Hull but never been too keen on them as been messed about in the past.

Hi Tezmil you will have to use an official MG dealership for software updates warranty work etc failure to use them unfortunately invalidates the warranty IAM sure it mentions it in the warranty paperwork? You can view online.👍

Forgot to say although it is legal for you to take your car to any garage for servicing as long as genuine MG parts are used , it's when it comes to software updates that independent garages can't do them. If you miss an update I am sure if anything went wrong MG would do their hardest to void warranty? Just my opinion though? Maybe others could advise? 😉

I will probably stick to mg, I will find out what a service plan costs.
I have only had the car 2 weeks and it was bought new.
thanks for replies, Terry

I bought it from stoneacre and yes they have been on to me, told them I would think about it then they sent ads through the post. Haven't heard from MG though.
I was also informed that I should get a years breakdown cover but that hasn't been mentioned either.

You should have the AA card in the glovebox that's active when you pick up the car from the dealership . I don't think you will hear from MG UK regarding servicing, you can go online and check mg uk service prices but most of the time mg dealership will offer a better price depending on dealership.

Does anyone have any servicing done with evans halshaw as they are the nearest MG dealer to me, just wondered what they were like for servicing

My service plan with Listers is £1000 for 3 years, I decided to use the MG dealer plan to make sure the warranty and AA breakdown was kept valid.

Just an update, I was in evans halshaw today as my son was buying an MG3 and while I was there I got a quote for first three services at the mg branch £397.00 couldnt believe it so snapped it up,

Hi all,
I'm in the process of setting up a service plan for my new S5EV. For peace of mind I'm favouring the 5 year option. I'm awaiting a response from Glyn Hopkins in Milton Keynes but I had a detailed chat with Perrys in Aylesbury who quoted £1342.33 for 5 services and 3 MOT's. They also detailed everything that was included and it seemed reasonable. However, I've just been on the MG online portal to get a service plan quote and for both garages it's quoting £1194.67. I can only assume that the Perrys quote is for a Perrys service plan and not a genuine MG service plan which can be set up via the MG portal. The question is, do both plans offer the same services/features and if so why is the dealership quote nearly £150 more. I'll update this once I've received a quote back from GH, if they can be bothered, but any thoughts?

The perrys quote will probably not be able to do any updates to car as i know mg are very secretive round their cars...pretty much makes you stick with them if you want the updates..

We got our first ever EV an M4 x power in 2024 and after doing some research set up a 3 year service plan on it with a local dealer, for me the ability to lock in the cost of servicing for the period, maintain the 7 year warranty and have the benefit of AA breakdown cover for free were big factors.

Xpower had its first service in March last year, would have been due second next month but this January bought a new S6 and transferred the service plan over to that with a £255 credit from the old plan, new 3 year plan works out at £7 a month.

Well pleased.
