I think the link to wiring in a switch (and fused relay) to the DRLs is the best solution. No getting out of the car in the cold and rain, no problem if you forget to turn them back on, it's not illegal to drive without them, and I can leave the system on with the temp set for the dog when he has to stay in the car, and the DRLs won't be on in the parking lot .... or every time I plug in to charge or use the V2L ....

If it's that cold and raining I am not camping, precisely because it is necessary to get out of the car for all sorts of reasons. It's not a campervan. I'm not messing with the car electrics. If it's so sunny that I have to leave the aircon on for the cat, nobody is going to notice the DRLs. (Of course, I seldom take the cat in the car.)

Sounds like a lot of work. I still dont know why people prefer to sleep in a car when you could just pitch up one of them 2 second tents from Decathlon.

I think you're vastly overestimating the time it takes to set up the car and underestimating the time it takes to set up a tent. But as others have said, the attraction is the HVAC. Also, as a lone female traveller, I feel safer inside a locked car.

Exactly, I've had my years of sleeping in a tent, and I've even slept in a car/van a couple of times, but those days are all behind me now that I've discovered Premier Inn (other hotel chains are available)

From sleeping under a tarp hung over the Norton, to a 3 man tent for 2 people, to a Kombi .... well 3 Kombis actually, a fold out camping 4 person tent on a 6 x 4 box trailer, to a Mazda 3500 mini bus converted to a motorhome, to a Hino 7 mtr bus converted to a motorhome, to a 29 ft Fuso coach converted to a motorhome, to a 31 ft Winnebago with a V10 6.8ltr and drag the car around behind it .... guess which one is the most comfortable and takes the least time to set up from driving to eating or relaxing or sleeping ...... just hope this one doesn't burn to the ground you finally get sick and tired of fitting them out just how you want, only to get that phone call and come and watch them burn either in the workshop or in front of the house .....

Looks good, but sleeping two in there seems very - cosy, shall we say. Also, I would think it's not so easy for one person to get in and out when the other is there. My set-up for one allows space beside the airbed to act as a bedside table and which makes it a lot easier to get into and out of the car I think.

I'm just back from another trip, with the e-bike as well this time. I'll tell you all about it soon.

Can anyone please recommend blackout blinds for the MG4? Ideally a full set and something easy to use. Thanks

With our Motorhome, we used this stuff https://www.temu.com/goods.html?_bg..._1761555212475_0x7bejpsoa&refer_page_sn=10045 and wrapped the edges with silver Gaffer tape, (Not Duck tape, that is just being cruel to ducks) then made tabs each end by taping part way along one side and continuing roughly another hand width, then folding the tape over on itself (intentionally, caught it by complete surprise) and continued up the other side to ensure it had a firm grip .... adding piece of garden hose over the part where you double the tape back on itself makes it easier to get along with when installing it.

Up to you if you fit it inside or outside, over here, outside in summer and inside in winter to keep the glass from getting hot in summer and heating the inside, and to keep the air away from the cold glass in winter .....

Anyway, pull the tab at one side through the door jamb and pull the insulating sheet and the other tab through the door jamb as you close the door ..... the bits of garden hose give you something to hold onto and also stops the other end from pulling through as you stretch it tight ..... if you are feeling industrious, another tab on the top and trap it with the window as you put it up.

Thank you for sharing all your tips! I've slept in my MG4 Luxury (or Trophy) in Bretagne (France) for 3 days.

It was -2°C at night. Here is a video of my setup : mp4: 20251227_003512.mp4

I had a one place inflatable mattress XL from decathlon, which suited well in the car (my height is 1m76). I had plenty of room, even with my stuff inside.

I've lost roughly 30% of charge during the night (9 hours sleep), with a temperature of 24°C. I had no problem with it (don't forget to put in in ready mode by pressing on the brake). Also, the LEDs were on all night long, but I've disabled the big LED, just left the small one to decrease light pollution.

It was a very great journey, this car is amazing! You can sleep in it anytime in the year!

Thank you very much for that, @Mikael. I was wondering how much battery it would take in freezing conditions. The coldest I've tried was a night when I saw 4°C when I woke, and it took maybe 15% of the SR battery. Then of course I boiled my kettle and charged my e-bike and so on. And stayed a second night before going to a charger. I think my blackout blinds help insulate the car a bit.

You'll have seen that we eventually cracked the lights issue by figuring out which fuses to pull. Takes about 70 seconds.
