Starting Procedure

I'm not new to EV's and have just picked up a 2026 (pre-reg 2025 model) MG4 at a crazy low price for a run around in my business. Sometimes when I get in the car b the time I have put the seat belt on it's all good to go. Then sometimes when I do this if I turn the 'drive' knob nothing happens. I seem to have wait for a minute or so and then a message comes up to say 'drive ready'. Is it normal that sometimes there is a lag between getting in the car and the drive ready state being ready?

My procedure is:

Get in the car (the car starts to power up)
Reach and put on my seatbelt
Press the brake pedal (to get to READY state)
Turn the drive selector to D
Start driving

Usually by then the Info display (FICM) has started up too. But I never try to start driving until the driver display (IPK) has started up. Works every time.

Make sure your door is closed before pressing the brake pedal, the car can not be in ready mode with the driver’s door open.

I find the car goes into ready mode about 98% of the time for me, it’s rare I have to tap the brakes a few times before it’ll go into ready mode.
