Step by step to charge?

Yes, I should add, I hit the 'P' button to make it switch to park mode and automatically apply the handbrake, before I jump out.
May I question the word, "jump" ,can we make this an Olympic event with timed efforts from sitting position to start of charge. Currently I'm on 1min 05 secs beat that! (home charge ) :D

I never power the car off manually.

At home, my procedure is:
  • Jump out of the car (with everything still running).
  • Open the charge port
  • Plug in
  • Lock the car

At a rapid charger, my procedure is basically the same:
  • Jump out (all running)
  • Open charge port
  • Plug in
  • Start the charge

Then I either:
  • Sit in the car (all running)
  • Lock the car and wander off
OR some combination of the two: lock, come back, sit in the car, lock again and come back etc...

I repeat, I NEVER shutdown the car using the power off mode. It isn't required.

Basically same as you, apart from all the running, my dodgy knees wont allow it…..

Was just thinking this! The thought of lots of MG4 owners firstly jumping out of their cars and then secondly wandering off (destination unspecified) afterwards made me laugh. The coffee/loo must be the third part of the triple jump.

I'm sure someone can think of a good pun including pole and volt but it's not me this morning

unlocking temporarily stops the charge on AC, but not DC.
Mine does exactly this and it isn't a problem on home charger but if you are on a destination charger it will end the session and if you pay a connection fee you will need to start again

Challenge accepted.

Not charging til tomorrow though ?

I've just checked my dashcam and from the moment I 'jump' out of the car to charge start is 45 seconds.

Which surprised me because it always feels faster than that.

Looks like a win for Bricktop then, I'll just break down my 1.05 time, press P, get out of car catching calf on plastic cill, distracted , bang head on top of chassis door frame, trip over dogs who have run over to see what the commotion was about. Rub head and as Seaton 91 says ,try to remember why I got out of the car, unhook cables ,turn on wallbox, open charging door , plug in and lock car ( scheduled charge ) done!

Remember its a marathon not a sprint….

I've never experienced this myself. It's normal for me to start unlocked, lock, go and get a drink, come back and unlock and sit in the car until done
I see this behaviour in my XPower if you have locked after the charge starts and you subsequently unlock it interrupts or stops the charge. Usually requires a manual restart of the charging process, which is a PITA

ƁUT one CANNOT open the charging port on an MG4 IF the HV system is NOT turned off,
Hence the need, apparently, to get out of the car, THEN LOCK IT (to turn off the HV power) and THEN unlock it (again) , to allow opening of the charging door ...
So 'tsedge' it IS REQUIRED (your last sentence in your post above)

The HV battery turns off as soon as you lift your butt from the seat. I can open my charging port without first locking and unlocking the car.

I guess the morale to this is, "try it first before posting".

I used to think locking and unlocking is a necessary step, but it certainly isn't, not with my MG4 anyway.
So the advice that says so is either misinformation or applies to some other car/software version?

Sort of the reverse of the old "Le Mans Start" where drivers ran to their cars and jumped in.
