SWARCO MG5 Service vehicle

Just thought I bring it up, I popped into a local charge location and the engineer from SWARCO was servicing/ repairing chargers.

His service vehicle is an mg5 excite, he said that SWARCO have already ordered new facelift LR models to replace their current ones.

Even better he said he's currently doing over 3k miles per month and had had zero issues with his car.

Who did SWARCO order the face-lift through?

There's no current BEV van that can manage that range (average of 150 miles/day) without spending significant time on a Rapid every day.

Mine does, I do the same or more mileage every working day and it's not that difficult. The SR can do 220 plus miles a day, start each day on 100% and you only need a short top up charge if you are going close to the limit.
Bear in mind the SWARCO guy is literally going from charger to charger as well.

May I ask what make and model of electric van do you use?

Ah, I get the point you were making, I misread Bugeyed's post.

Whilst it isn't a true van, there are more and more companies/councils/utilities using MG5s for this purpose because of their range.

If you can fit all you need into an MG5 it makes perfect sense over driving a large box that spends most of its time 25% filled.

The devil is in the detail LOL!

If there isn't a van yet capable of consistently managing 200 miles on a full charge then the market must be crying out for one.

The problem is that "big box" vans struggle to achieve 2 miles/kWh, so you are really looking at a ~125kWh battery which brings three problems:

• Cost
• Size
• Weight

To be frank a PHEV may make more sense, particularly one more BEV than ICE biased than current offerings so maybe 50kW ICE and 50kWh battery in a similar ratio to a REx i3.

These guys seem to do pretty well with the Maxus - worth following their adventures but with essentially the same battery as the MG5SR and aerodynamics of a house brick, it's not going to achieve close to the MG5 range.
