System fault - stopped in a live lane of the motorway

You beat me to my update!

They called yesterday to say that they'd managed to squeeze the car in and cleared all the vaults, all of which apart from one parking sensor, were to do with low voltage.

So I drove over there because I wanted my spare key programmed and they said they wanted to keep it over the weekend to make sure that it was okay and no other faults occurred, but I suggested that I took it for a drive, which I did and drove for about 25 minutes and it was fine.

There's no guarantee that that has solved it because of course the car did drive even when we managed to get it going on the day it broke down for about 20 minutes and then it died, so hopefully if it genuinely was about low voltage being recorded everywhere, then that could be the solution, for which I'm extremely relieved. Extremely relieved. I actually wasn't going to post this until Monday and I knew more but I have now!

The other thing they said they do is they took the old battery from me and they're doing a battery conditioning check over the weekend to see whether that battery really is the problem, and we'll know more about that on Monday too. The problem is if it isn't the issue, then there's an intermittent problem which is going to be a bigger issue. Fingers crossed.

As for the dealership, they are excellent and they always have been every time I've used them. Actually don't have a bad word to say about them and I think it was great that they managed to fit me in this week as soon as they could.

I assume they will blame the 12V battery for not starting the car, but let them explain how the aux can be responsible for shutting down the car when ‘READY’..

At least my car is not lonely 🥴😂

6 weeks is not too bad 🥴 my Xpower died the same way in mid January and have been quoted mid May before they can even look at it, (MG Leicester) but thanks to the AA and MG UK they gave me a hire car (Polestar 4) unfortunately after 1k miles this also died and had to be recovered, I’m now in the replacement Ford Capri and have to say I will be reluctant to give it back 👍

It's obviously you, your jinxed. I feel for the Capri...... 😉🙂👍

The plot thickens...

I now have the car and it drove fine. They did two test drives and I also did one for about half an hour. I've also just driven 40 mins home in varied traffic conditions, from no traffic to stationary traffic jams.

However, the old battery was tested over the weekend and charged fully. It then has passed with "Good Battery" so goodness only knows what happened. Yet all the error codes were "low voltage".

I do have one residual fault that is the rear parking sensors. It's never worked but the error apparently is " vehicle parking aid system fault (lost communication with pedestrian alert control module)"

So now I just need to drive it and hope it doesn't conk out.

One thing I do remember from 2020, was that some of the ZSs used to go into a system fault when they were doing slow speed stop start, and the car seemed to get a bit confused. I don't know whether this is the case with this car but it was stop start 20 mph on the motorway traffic when it occurred.

I don't think you're the first MG5 driver doing stop/start on a motorway, if this is one of the MG5 'quirks' more incidents would have been reported by now?

Might be a coincidence but the 'pedestrian alert' only activates at low speed??

Btw disconnecting the 12V aux will certainly cause low voltage errors??

Going through the residues of that M6 incident last Wednesday there was a big Jag in the middle lane with its hazards on getting in the way of traffic. Must have failed in the traffic jam and was now keeping it going. Nightmare.
