Trickle Charging issues on MG ZS EV

My son has recently purchased a 2020 Mk1 excite model (33000 mi) and is having problems with the granny only charging to 7 bars or about 110 miles GOM. I have leant him my granny to see whether that solves the problem.
I have a 2020 Exclusive Mk1 (25000 m) and I noticed that my son's car seems to have the original fascia software, eg: no continuous display of GOM and no temperature display. Has it missed out on the update or did it not apply to the excite model?

Test with my granny shows the same result. Put on charge at 7pm with 75 miles GOM. 10am in morning shows 8 bars (full) but only 115 miles GOM. Miles/kWh shows 4.2. Something must be wrong - any thoughts? Son has had the car for about 3 months, 2020 car mileage 34k miles.

if he bought it from a dealer, he should ask them to have a look and make sure the car is in good order. I think he would have 6 months window to refuse the car if there is something seriously wrong with it.
miles/kWh of 4.2 could be his last drive? and GOM depends on how he drives the car. How is your GOM and mi/kWh compared to his?

My car is same age and similar mileage and gets consistent 170 miles after full charge. M/kw much the same at about 4. It is very odd, but I think there must be something wrong with my sons car.

Ask him to get the battery down to 9%-10% and then charge to 100% on a granny charger and leave it balancing until it stops charging by itself - could take 12 hours or so + 1-3 hours balancing when the car says it's already on 100%. That should balance the battery and refresh GOM ...

Worth a try I suppose. He has had it on charge (with the granny) for long periods of time in an effort to get the GOM mileage up.
