MG4 (2022-2025)
As the title.

When I bought the car it was 100% charged with 289 miles on the clock Trophy 64KWh.
Of course I know that driving habits change this figure drastically but now in Winter I'm sure I'm getting way below what I should be getting - 100% charge with 195 miles.
Of course the heating goes on and many times before we get in the car and then the heated steering wheel goes on but very rarely the seats.
It just seems that when I read about other EV owners, not just MG4, that they drop around 40 miles and not the 90 I'm getting.
At the last service in September the mechanic said the battery is in excellent condition, as good as the day it was new.

Any tips what we might be doing wrong?

Don't think your doing owt wrong. It's just winter simple's, there's so many different variables to what range you will get.
For example in Summer my X Power when charged to 100% showed about 250
miles. Now in winter it shows about 170 miles, on a 100% charge. It's just the way it is. 🙂👍

For ‘peace of mind’ reset trip info when charged to 100%, the car then computes range with a ‘generic consumption’.

Obviously that will change once you start driving.

If you look back in the forum for the past 3 winters your range is bang on average that everyone has been getting, there is nothing wrong with your car, most EVs can lose 20-30% in the winter

Doesn't sound too bad really.

You'll lose a bit of range over time through battery degradation, but this is what you would expect for a new one.

The car was never going to achieve 289 miles as it claimed unless you drove constantly at 30mph.

My basic advice would be to ignore the GOM. Unless reset (see earlier post) its calculation is based upon recent usage. Whether you have thrashed your MG4 = low figure, or driven gently at 30mph = a higher figure, you will achieve what you achieve on your current drive. Let experience teach you what to expect, based upon the seasons, weather, heating, number of passengers, your intended style during the drive, etc.

Yep, 160 miles winter range is commonplace for me. Mind you keeping up with people on the M11 is quite a battery killer at times 😇

In another thread I mentioned my first ever Range Anxiety problem.
I had 60 miles to get home and around 78 on the display but I'd been watching it slowly get shorter and no way would I have enough.
I thought what would I do in my ICE car so I dropped to Cruise Control at 60mph and when I got home there was now 35 miles on the display.

Hi I bought mine in October as soon as it got cold the miles dropped to 220 and when it got really cold it went down to 175. Also no body told me about how much it would drop when on a motorway it was frightening now set cruise control to 65 now much better. But all said love my bight orange trophy to bits

This looks & sounds normal for your summer estimated range and now winter. It is a big difference which is something an EV driver has to get used to. The winter range is made worse if you make lots of shortish journeys and the car is being turned off & on. Each time you do, it is the cabin heater which uses a huge amount energy (relatively) as it tries to re-heat the cabin back up to your set temperature. Conversely the heated seats & steering wheel use a lot less energy. Things like if your car is parked in a garage or outside can make a difference as a very cold battery uses some energy to heat itself up depending on the cars software. So very cold temps overnight can lessen range also.

It depends on so many different viariables, outside temp, driving mode, previous driving data, etc.
On shorter journeys you may get as little as 2 miles/kWh, do these frequently and the GOM will be showing some pretty drastic reductions over "typical" range estimates. On longer A & B road journeys you could see 4.5 - 5 miles/kWh in ECO even during this time of the year. On average I tend to be getting 190-220 miles on a charge currently.

I have mentioned this several times, but what I query is the predicted range, which never gets answered. Ie should it always be the same after charging, and only start reducing once you start driving and using options (a/c, heated sets etc). One crazy possibility could be "winter" is factored in for some months!!!

The predicted range is effectively calculated based on your Accumulated Total miles/kWh x your current SoC (based on your battery pack size and SoH).

So if your miles/kWh says 3, and your 100% capacity is 50kWh then your 100% range would be 150 miles. In my SE SR this seems to pretty much correlate year round ... better range in summer, worse range in winter, but the GOM seems reasonably accurate.

However the key thing to watch is not the range, it is the percentage SoC remaining. If you reset the Acc Total meter then the predicted range will be related to the WLTP range, but your actual available range will depend on climatic conditions and driving style. Over time the Acc Total will relearn these factors.

Exactly which is why I find the whole resetting exercise pointless it's a totally false reading
