What car did you replace with your MG?

Particularly good as the thread died almost 5 years ago. Things have changed so much since then and possibly the reasons for changing.
Yep my reason 4 years ago were because I didn't do alot of miles and stayed out all week
Now it's because I commute every day

I did post on another thread about a similar subject, but it'd be worth reiterating the sentiments on this too.
The MG 4 replaced a 2012 Ford C Max 1.6 Diesel. That was a good car. It fulfilled the requirements from the Vauxhall Meriva we had before that. It was economical, 50 plus MPG, had a 6 speed gearbox and fell in the £30 road tax band. All good then?....... By 2022 Diesel was starting to be frowned on as dirty, and with the emissions rules changing for central London ULEZ in 2023 it seemed time to look elsewhere.
I took a fresh approach, and seeing all the advantages and advances in EV's I started taking a look at the EV market. Then the TV adverts started popping up for the MG 4. I had a look, then a test drive, then another, and then went back with my wife to see what she thought too.
We got ours March 23, before the rush of EV sales that were soon to be happening!. Then the government started moving the targets, so for a time it looked as though the whole thing was coming off the rails.
I haven't regretted the decision at all, I'm enjoying EV motoring, and guess what I'll next be going too... haven't decided but it will definitely be an EV.

I didn't realise the thread had been dormant so long. I thought I had actually replied to it earlier, but perhaps there was another similar one.

So, meet Prospero, the 2009 Golf GTi Mk6.

Ferdinand, Fiesta XR2, 1993-1998
I had a couple of MK2 XR2's.
Brilliant fun to drive & they felt genuinely quick.
Then a while back I Googled the actual performance figures.......
The words shocked & disappointed spring to mind! 😔

Yes. Ferdinand was a speed-cop magnet, unfortunately. I think he was so light, he seemed to go like a bat out of hell. Particularly compared to the relatively staid Miranda.
Have you seen the current values of that era of fast Fords? 😳
If you sold Ferdinand now he'd probably raise enough for a Caliban.

I traded him in for Ariel (at five years old and about 53,000 miles) because my senior partner said, I want a new car and by the terms of the partnership agreement you have to have one too. What do you fancy?

I moved up a notch to a larger car because Ferdinand didn't have aircon and I was melting. Also he didn't have power steering which I hadn't thought I needed but he was a lot heavier to steer than Miranda had been.

I think Ferdinand was one of the last XR2s ever made.
