Hi all I have a MG4 Trophy 23 plate and the wheel trim paint has started peeling off. Has anyone got any advice?

Have you had your car washed by these hand car wash places? It could be the chemical they use for cleaning alloy wheels and your alloy wheels have plastic covers.

Do you use a jet wash?

Might be worth calling your dealer to see if they can be replaced under warranty.

Is that the new one in WSM? Hopefully they will be wanting to start of on the right foot with customers and you'll get good service. Let us know what you think of them.

I see @MartinSEsr has a set of wheel trims for sale, if the worst comes to the worst. They may be a bit expensive for you though. Look in the classifieds, under the post about tyres for sale.

It’s an issue that I am seeing pop up quite a bit now. The pressure wash reasoning doesn’t make sense because (at least for mine) the peeling starts in the middle and not near the edges which is where you’d expect water ingress

I have a similar problem with wheel trims on a two year old MG ZS. I complained to MG service, but they refused a warranty claim, saying that it is a cosmetic problem which is only covered for 12 months. I have had several comments from people experiencing the same problem.

I had all 4 wheels replaced on my ZS after just under 3 years, no problem took about 4 weeks for replacements. Cosmetic paint inc wheels is covered for 3 years

Thanks, i'll do a new thread and I agree mine were expensive! But cheaper than Ebay! I'll re-think the price.

So what is the outcome of the delamination of the wheel hubs, are they covered by warranty, or are there better alternative out there? Mine are losing the paint as well, just over 2 years.

We too have the same issue which as just shown up on my wife’s 28 month old car the strange thing is only the trims on one side of the car have this issue and the car is parked with them 2 in sunlight most of the time when the sun is out car as never been in a car wash nor been washed with a pressure washer so I’m pretty sure it’s the sun that as caused the problem as there is no damage to the trims at all and the main bad points are in the center areas of both wheels.

The 2 on the other side are unaffected.
Need to speak with dealer next and will update on out come of that.
As pointed out earlier in the thread the warranty on cosmetic paint is apparently 3yrs

UPDATE to #15 above
Paid my dealer Chorley MG a visit yesterday but unfortunately nobody was available to look at the wheels and I was told they would only assess the issue when the vehicle is in for service in October and nothing can be done until after the service assessment has been carried out, I have the emailed the pictures above to their service department.

Yeah, I'm minded to agree ... that looks like heat blistering of the top layer.
Indeed. Do we know if there is a coating of lacquer on top of the paint? Have seen this type of surface effect on alloy wheels that are lacquered with no paint underneath. Wonder if it possible to get the covers re-lacquered.

What a ridiculous response! Is this the state of MG support, I thought Hyundai's was bad, but this takes the biscuit.

That's terrible, there should always be somebody there who can do whatever is required to start a warranty claim with MG Motors, in this case it should require no more than taking the owner and vehicle details, and taking some photographs for a report to MG.

There is no reason whatsoever why it should have to wait until the vehicle is in for service, what happens if there is also nobody available on that day, does it have to wait till your next service?

Very poor.
