Could you debadge a Tesla and make it look like a BMW? That way you could escape the anti Musk people looking down on you and just be considered a ****** ...... and that added benefit of always driving in the fast lane and never needing to use mirrors or indicators ever again ..... that could be a "value added" feature that could go towards acceptance of the higher price .......

Anti Musk people make me laugh, won't own a Tesla but will happily drive an MG

I guess the MG owners are not far right extremists, but it would make for interesting headlines with far left extremists smashing up MG dealerships ..... Maybe people have moved a bit more toward China on political grounds, but more likely because of the way they shafted both Musk and Trump ;) .....

I can understand the UK's hostility toward MG, but I believe it is more an importer problem than a vehicle problem ...... but if you are ok with a far right nazi saluting company owner having open access to how your vehicle runs .... then that is your choice and not one I'd be happy with ...... if I ever bought one, the Zombie inverter card would be replacing the Tesla card as one of the first steps .......

Or Aldi's as I like to call them, Good, Different  I don't find Aldi owners to be of the group that believe they have the superior vehicle and all inferior makes should move aside, to let the rightful owners of the road, access to the BMW lane ..... Aldi drivers are simply ignorant regarding any other vehicle that is attempting to use the space they want ...... they don't drive excessively fast, or excessively slow like Volvo drivers, but at least you get a chance to avoid the Volvos, there is even a helmet sticker "Volvo aware rider" ......

I didn't buy a Tesla for several reasons
  • They are ugly. A white model Y looks like it is wearing a singlet from the back & front on they are just boring.
  • They were too expensive.
  • I wanted a hatchback & the most affordable, though still expensive model 3 is a car with a boot.
  • I wanted driver controls in front of the wheel , not in the centre.
  • I wanted stalks for lights, wipers, indicators etc not buttons.
  • I didn't want Musks men monitoring everything I do.
  • Also I wanted an EV with reasonable range that is not too big, with good performance though not ridiculous like some.
  • Mostly I wanted a drivers car with good handling characteristics & the MG4 has delivered this in spades. It is just fun to drive.

Think he is a Poundland Bond villain but China is every bit as bad, just as questionable politics, marginalising minority ethnic groups, constant threats to invade another sovereign nation and have been declared a national security threat by the government.
And it has been proved that they also have access to our info through there vehicles, pretty much everything computer wise from China is dumping our info back over there. So every bit as bad.
I am not defending one or the other but let's not be hypocrites because we like one car over another.

•Model 3 Highland is a good looking car in my opinion, agree with the rest.
•They are more expensive, now in MGS6 territory (which isn't that much of a looker)
• agree re hatchback
• yeah prefer a screen in front
• stalls are back now, the listened to customers
• Musks men monitoring our cars, fair enough, it has been proven that the Chinese are doing the same and dumping all our info when we connect phones to cars back to servers in China
• Agree re size and range but there isn't a more efficient car on the market for battery size to range ratio than the model 3, it is brilliant technology (whether you like the car or not)
•Agree for a budget car the mg4 drives well

I thought the MG4 didn't have over the wire connection? They must be incredibly bored if they want to monitor our trips to the shops and doctors.

Tesla on the other hand, can and will shut down the operating system if they aren't happy with the way you are using their equipment. That was the trigger to design and build the Zombie inverter boards, so the Tesla gear could have a second life in an EV conversion ......

Let's face it, no govt is squeaky clear regarding how they treat minority groups, the UK has a dreadful track record when it comes to anyone not British ..... but we won't go there eh

I understand most of the issues raised here - though we were never promised OTA updates, I was just disappointed not to get them. We took an MG4 on a two year PCP and moved to an MGS5.
I liked the MG4 very much but the software issues - screen lag and CarPlay issues were quite irritating.
What swayed us for the S5 though, was the comfort and ease of getting in and out - we are getting on a bit. It’s not as zippy and probably is a little less economical but all the software issues are so much more reliable and pleasurable to use.
We did consider Tesla - our son-in-law is a died in the wool Musk fan (whereas my view of him is less than complementary) - and one day we might go down that route but for the minute the MG suits us fine.
Anti Musk people make me laugh, won't own a Tesla but will happily drive an MG

Musk has scarcely done himself any favours in the last few years but to tarnish the whole of Tesla on the back of his idiocy is as daft as imagining that he is the sole reason that Tesla exists and produces such cars of undoubted groundbreaking quality.

And that is how it should be, you buy the car that works for your needs.👍
Don't just discount a brand because of a person's politics whilst buying another with every bit as questionable, if not worse, politics

I used to admire Musk, till he got pally with Trump and started acting like a spoilt child, but I would never have bought a Tesla anyway, cos I just don't like 'em.
If they had ever followed through on the smaller hatchback and put the tech from the standard highland in it, I'd seriously consider one.
That 64kwh LFP battery gets well over 300milea wltp in the model 3. It would have outstanding range and efficiency in a smaller, lighter car.
To be fair the model 3 is pretty light anyway it's less than 20kg heavier than an MG 4 ER and is considerably bigger and has a larger range, even though it has a smaller battery

When I was looking at buying a new car, due to my last car being written off. There was not an ICE car I could buy in Australia as they are all automatics.
I had driven a hired Polestar 2 for 8 weeks. well 2 of them. First one was the FWD and then an AWD with the full package.
Looking on the used market there were a LOT of affordable used Teslas. They had the "Elon Discount" but was warned I would not be allowed to bring one home. The wife hates him with a passion. Ended up getting the XPower. It has a few issues but overall good value.

I may be coming across as a bit of a Tesla fan boy today, I am definitely not. I do however admire their tech and have enjoyed a shot of driving a highland that my friend has.

It is much easier however to hate an individual than a whole government/country that are doing far worse things in the world than the pseudo Bond villain
