AC 43kW is virtually dead - it was mainly a Renault thing

Those Renaults will still be on the road for many years. Some Circontrol DC chargers, including one a few km from my home, have an AC 43kW cable as well as CCS and CHAdeMO. I agree that they will get little use, especially since there are often other AC chargers at the same location with lighter cables. I guess that Circontrol figured it's reasonable backup in case the DC charger fails.

Yes and No. Most are a rare model of Zoë which amounted to about 5% of the sales of that car with a mix of 22kWh and 41kWh batteries - it was more expensive and shorter range than the standard ones. I would question how many of them are being used for regular long road trips. My guess is that most are just used for local trips within the range of their home charge point, and rarely benefit from the extra speed of the rare 43kW charge points. It's the same argument as Chademo chargers despite the vastly greater number of LEAF on the roads and their continuing production.

Here in the UK, most of the 43kW AC chargers were removed from motorway service areas when Gridserve swapped them out for working DC-only units.

MG clearly has a problem with how the ZS negotiates with fast chargers. I was told this by the AA when they helped me by resetting the faults. On their advice I went and got the system updates from the dealer. Now I get different faults with about 60% of fast chargers I have tried. I am going to see if there is another software update yet. Other makes have problems too but MG has more. As the Aidan McClean says in Electric Revolution "It is the Wild West when it has to fast chargers".

I concur, my problems have been with BP Pulse and Gridserve Braintree, Instavolt and others seem to work fine.

I had a problem 2 years ago when having charged on a rapid charger I could no longer charge at all. It was resolved by reinstalling the BMS software. Fortunately I had just enough charge to get to the dealer without resorting to a flat bed.
I was hoping that the Mk 2 would have these thing sorted?

There are several rapid charges that will fail just as described if you plug the car in before you do anything else. On these chargers you need to set up the charge either on the charger or it's app, the charger will then say "Connect your car". Then plug in and all is well.

I saw a chap in Ludlow have exactly this problem in his Mercedes last weekend!

There are several rapid charges that will fail just as described if you plug the car in before you do anything else. On these chargers you need to set up the charge either on the charger or it's app, the charger will then say "Connect your car". Then plug in and all is well.

What it boils down to is that different chargers have different methods or order of connection and some people take it for granted they're all the same and come unstuck when they do it in the wrong order. The moral of the story, read the instructions on the charger or in the app before connecting up.

I didn't assume anything I always read the charger instructions, but after you do it a few times you wonder if a) you read instructions correctly or b) there is issue with charger or c) issue with car d) any of the above...

Right now we are hesitant of going a long drive because of this, so looking now a replacement car because I've lost confidence in the MG.

Did you ever resolve the issue with MG? We had what sounds like the same problem with a new MG4 this week. It would not charge on the rapid chargers at a service station 200 miles form home and ended up having the AA bring us home with it on a truck. I then discovered at home that it will charge on domestic power, but not on the rapid chargers - how did they fix yours and not great if this was a problem back in 2022 and they are making new cars with the same problem today.

Resurrecting this thread - my ZS EV LR (2022 model)’s DC failed last weekend on 5 different GRIDSERVE chargers. AC works fine still. It’s booked in with MG this week under warranty - did anyone else go to MG? Was it an easy fix? Making a long trip in a couple of weeks so hopefully I’ll have the car back by then?

just make sure dealer knows you need the car in 2 weeks time and to organise replacement if yours is not going to be ready...
on a positive, ask them to make sure it can also charge on Tesla chargers

Mine was DoA without any ability to rapid charge on any DC unit we tried (which was many).

So much for the pre delivery inspection!

Took it to the dealer, and they ran multiple updates across control systems and fixed it after having it a couple of days.

It's just amazing that people on here are jumping to the defense of MG on the Tesla issue when they have such a flaky record on rapid charging.

Forgot to ask you, those 5 Gridserve chargers that failed were all in the same area? Have you been to any other in the meantime and they don't work either?
